Dressing Smart on Casual Days
A lot of guys like to look their best even when there’s no particularly special reason to do so. After all, if you feel happier in a smarter kind of outfit then what other reason do you really need? But a lot of guys struggle in how to strike the right balance and get an outfit that will look smart but won’t be a hassle or make them look overdressed. A few pretty simple hints can help make this tightrope a much easier walk.
Think About Comfort
You don’t have to suffer for the sake of style. Or you don’t have to do so every day at least. If you’re going to some super-fancy party or you’re best man at the wedding, then looking the part definitely has to come first. But even on casual days, a lot of people with fairly formal tastes tend to think that it’s a choice between being comfortable or dressing how they like. But if you aren’t comfortable and relaxed in your attire yet it’s supposed to be a casual outfit, then you probably need to rethink things.
Don’t Overdo It
At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious of the great ship You-Don’t-Say, the best way not to look overdressed is not to overdo your outfit. Or, more to the point, you need to accept that that you don’t need to overdo your outfit. Looking smart is relative, and you don’t exactly need to be dressed for a wedding to look neat and well-turned-out for everyday activities. Just a reasonably fancy shirt, a decent pair of trousers, and polished shoes will go a long way if you’re just going about your day-to-day business, and yet will be pretty much just as comfortable and quick to put on as everybody else’s casual outfits. If you want to dress up a bit more for an occasion or just like going that one step beyond, a waistcoat, a tie, or both will be an easy yet high-impact way to get smarter still.
Experiment and Explore
A shirt, tie, and blazer outfit may be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of a smart outfit, but if you’re not so much into this specific style as you are into looking good then you might want to broaden your horizons. It is entirely possible to look smart in a much wider range of clothes as long as they are well-made, good-quality, and in a style that compliments your figure and physical type. For everyday purposes, shirts that you would never dream of wearing a tie with and trousers that would exclude you from some nightclubs can look impressively smart if they are part of a well-thought-out and well-fitting ensemble that suits you well and helps create a distinctive and stylish look.
