I have mixed opinions on this.

On one side, your past does influence your future and the actions you take in it. If you have a great past and reputation, it's likely that it's gonna be easier for you to grow faster.

But on the other side, your past isn't the only factor that determines your future. Your environment plays a big role too. You could be a millionaire today and a vagabond tomorrow.
