Melaka - a cocktail of history, culture, and food
A big hello from the bright and sunny East Malaysia! Hope you guys have a beautiful weather wherever you may be. :-D
If ever your feet bring you to this part of the world, I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful and historical place called ‘Melaka’. You may be wondering whether ‘Melaka’ is the same as ‘Malacca’. Well, let me clarify that ‘Melaka’ and ‘Malacca’ are one and the same. However, the state government of the aforementioned place declared that the official name of the state is ‘Melaka’ and not ‘Melaka’. I hope that has cleared any confusion in your minds.
I have heard about Melaka even when I was in my primary years as we learned about it in our history class. Two months ago, I was so blessed to have the chance to visit this place.
What does Melaka offer? Lots.
This is the famous Jonker Street. This is the place where you can find all sorts of stuff, from cheap trinkets to expensive china. There are lots of restaurants along the streets too which offer different types of cuisine. One of the famous dishes that the locals recommended was the 'chicken rice ball'. I definitely enjoyed it.

aking the Melaka River Cruise is definitely recommended when in Melaka. You will be able to see the beautiful sights of Melaka and some historic buildings. You can also peek into the colourful culture of the town as you see the murals painted on the walls of the buildings alongside the river. There are many boutique hotels and quirky cafes as well, where you can see people chatting, enjoying their beverage or simply admiring the beautiful scenery around them.
This is the Menara Taming Sari. It is a revolving gyro tower which allows you to see the whole of Melaka from above. It slowly rotates as it goes up and as it goes down as well. So you have a 360-degree view of the city. It was quite an experience!
I will make a separate post and show you the historical side of Melaka. I think I have flooded this post with photos. :-D I hope you enjoyed reading and looking at the pics. Hopefully, this has given you some ideas on what Melaka is. If you plan to go there and want to ask some questions, I am very willing to help. Cheers, guys! :-D
PS. I am very sorry about some of the pics. I am a newbie and I don't know how to rotate them here. That's one thing I need to find out asap. :-D
