[KR-Meetup] 17.6.24 The Progress of the Meet up + The Settlement of the Fund + The Suggestion for the ‘Meet Up for the Meet Up’

in #meetup7 years ago

This post is a translation of the review about STEEMIT Newbie Meetup in Seoul, South Korea on June 24, 2017.

Hello! I'm @vimva from South Korea.

I wanted to introduce the Korean meetup to the steemians of the world. So I asked yguhan to translate this article.

(It’s my handmade image…)

Hello Steemian, I am Vimva!

I eventaully write about the meet up.

The review of the Meet up is divided into 3 parts.

1) Description about the Progress of the Meet Up
2) Usage of Grant
3) Suggestion for the next Meet up

It will take quite a long time since I will put all of about this event into this article. This is to inform as much vivid information as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

let's get started!

1. The progress of the ‘Meet Up for the Meet Up’

As an organizer, I went to Jong-Ro 3rd street Station to prepare this meet up.

I called my acquaintance @bigdiamond8026 and went to the chapel together.

I also got in touch with @ghana531 that started preparing it together.

We had to eat enough food before preparing! I served Korean noodle since I was helped by valuable people.

When I took a picture of the noodle, dumplings were already disappeared. I ate too much for the cheap price.

Does not the number of cookies look small? I could not buy enough snacks in the convenience store. Fortunately, the snacks remained even after the end of the meeting. Everyone seemed to have a good diet 🙂

I ordered 20 ice Americano according to the number of people and I also prepared orange juice and coke in case of emergency.

While preparing, @gamewarrior and @roychoi came here.

It is the banner which @roychoi made by himself. Since the official banner was not finished yet, so he had printed the same thing. The quality of the banner was good. There were two versions, Steemit-blue color and pink. And it had blank space behind ‘@’ to write ID on there. He had a good sense.

Soon more people came here. @renakim prepared a sticker for us. @renakim gave us several bundles. It was designed to be able to separate into two kinds of small STEEM mark. The sticker on the Yellow man’s notebook looked pretty. @venti also seemed to have brought the sticker, but I could not get It. You could see what stickers are in the kr-meetup tag’s posts 🙂

All gathered! I checked attendance for fun 🙂

Unfortunately, @skt1, @tworld, @wony, @jk-kim did not attend. I hope I can see them next time.

The participants were @vimva, @bigdiamond8026, @ghana531, @acceptkim, @roychoi, @minsur, @dmy, @sinnanda2627, @boostyou, @venti, @jjjabe, @ryanhkr, @hjoon, @renakim, @gamewarrior, @cubo, @kimsursa, @zoon(hjoon’s friend), @toptimist, @mellisapark. The classroom filled with the maximum of 20 people. Everyone was passionate!

After everyone got together, the participants introduced themselves one by one.

What I asked them to do was to tell their STEEMIT ID and their reason for joining this meeting.

After the orientation, I gathered conversation topics.

Steemit Meetup Review - aimed at steam power 500 - @boostyou

By seeing @boostyou’s review, you could understand the way of selecting the theme.

In conclusion, we divided into 2 teams according to the topic.

1. Block chain, cryptocurrency, STEEMIT know-how
2. STEEMIT as an ordinary life, love, writing know-how.

I sat next to @renakim and started talking about the interesting topic.

Personally, the most impressive story was @renakim's description of the block chain and @minsur's mining story. Also Puppy master’s aura were so great. How did he get into STEEMIT at that young age and he was so active ... it was time to learn so much 🙂

I felt a little sad that there was not enough time to talk with each other due to my lack of ability to host people. I will mention more about it in the suggestion section.

I borrowed the seminar room for the rain, but fortunately it did not rain. At 6:30 pm, we went to @lelekang's workplace, Housetay, around the Hongik University entrance. Seven people went home and 13 people remained.

Some of us got in @roychoi's car, and the rest of us went on the subway with me. I felt like going to a picnic. We went to the Hongik University station with a pleasant conversation about the STEEMIT.

Orange man(@bigdiamond8026) and @kimsursa poured orange juice in a paper cup and drank in the subway. It was something like culture shock but it was fun.

This is Housetay. Actually, I saw this landscape very late...

@bigdiamond8026, @ghana531 and I went to the exit 9 to go to Daiso and went back to Housetay. We lost our way and wandered for 30 minutes. I would like to say sorry and thank to them.

When we went up to the rooftop of the guest house, the beautiful sight was spread.

I hurriedly spread my mat and put food on it. It was really just a place for 13 people. It would have been a bit confusing if 20 people gathered here as planned.

Well, the food was prepared 🙂 The second part of this meet up was talking and eating chicken and pizza with beer.

The chicken was very crispy and delicious. The night was deep, and there was no light

At that time, @kimsursa created a pretty light with cup and smart phone, which was really beautiful.

We had more conversations in beautiful scenery. STEEMIT stories, life stories, and even the deepest stories. Especially, the puppy master’s story of STEEMIT philosophy and the life story were really impressive. I thought that the puppy master(@gamewarrior) will do well in the future!

It was time for everyone to take last train that STEEMIT Meet up was finished.

2. Usage of Grant

I have arranged the use of the grant in Excel.

Using 399,200 won out of 466,016 won, a total of 66,816 won was left.

I will upload all of the receipts. And I would attach them as a declined-posting. (https://steemkr.com/kr-meetup/@vimva/5zi5u6-kr-meetup-17-6-24)

Thanks again to @clayop and @gotoperson for donations 🙂

The remaining amount will be transferred to the person that hosting next Meet up.

3. Meet Up for Meet Up, Suggestions for Next Meet Ups.

I felt a lot of things in preparation for this meeting. As it was a meet up for meet up, the stories that came out during the meet up are important. And it is important to talk about how to proceed systematically and efficiently organizing meet up in the future. Here are some suggestions I personally thought about.

1. Difficulties of Notification

It was very difficult to give notice to participants because of the recent massive traffics of postings.

So what I suggest is using kr-meetup tag. Participants should check this kr-meetup tag often to get new information. I think this is the best way in this situation.

When schedules were changed, it was really hard to inform new changes to them even after recruiting participants. Because so many people talked in the public chat room, the notice message became disappeared soon.

So I thought it would be better to set a rule and make official chat room for notice. The rules of the official chat room would contain not talking about personal topic. And using steem-chat would be nice too.

2. Problem of cost

In fact, this meeting was a fairly affluent meeting. Participants in this meeting were able to enjoy the meet up without paying a penny. However, when the meet ups are activated in many places at the same time, it would be impossible to receive big support like now.

So collecting entry fee will become a problem. At this time, thanks to @clayop, the money problem was solved easily.

Gathering expected amount of money from each participant in advance could be the solution. After the meet up, the remaining money should be divided and distributed to the participants. It could put pressure on STEEMIT newbie. I think the participation of newbies is also important.

I thought that someone could run away with money if organizer uses personal bank account. It would not be a problem if a trustworthy person holds a meet up, but anyone on the net can’t trust anyone.

I do not have much experience with opening this kinds of meeting. If you are more experienced, you might be able to think brilliant alternatives. Please comment if you have a good idea!

3. Space Problems

In fact, before I started the seminar, I thought that less than 10 people will participate. However, so many people came here.

A total of 23 people participated, and 3 of them were absent, so only 20 people gathered. I felt a little sad.

So in the future, it would be better to have a larger space so that more people can come.

However, the problem is that we need to grasp the people in advance to prepare for the meet up. I thought that I should make a plan mainly for those who can definitely attend.

Even though we received donations, if I rent a room for 30 people, the budget is exceeded. I think the cost problems are really important.

@skt1 said that he will provide the meeting room if meetings are held in Sangam. The problem can be solved to some extent.

4. Topic of the Meet Up

The choice of topic was the hard problem for me.

In the first off-line meeting held in Uijongbu, there was not a topic but a lot of outstanding people came including @leesunmoo. So the meeting was finished successfully.

In this case, however, I did not have enough knowledge to lead the meeting. So I started ‘Meet up for the Meet up’ with ambiguous theme.

As @lovedj has suggested, if the meet up is getting more organized, it would be nice to produce specific information by seminar type of meet up. With specific topic, people who are interested in the field may be able to participate.

I think it would be better to proceed with the meet up divided into a “Meet Up for the Meet Up” and “Meet Up for Acquiring Knowledge”

5. The way to Talk with Many People Attending the Meet Up

Meet up is not a lecture. So it is important to interact with a variety of people. But I think I’ve managed wrong about this issue.

At first, people talked about their topic, but groups of people did not mix until the meet up was over. It’s because they were having an interesting conversation.

So someone suggested to move around and talk to each other during the meet up. I think it is a very good idea. It would be nice to use this method next time.

6. Notice Before 2 Weeks

I had a trip to Japan and I noticed this meet up before a week. So many people could not participate because of the appointment. If I informed early, more people could participate in.

7. Suggestion for the Local Place Meet Up

Many STEEMIAN commented that the region was far away and it was sad.

But I think the area is not really a problem. There is no reason to do it only in Uijongbu or Seoul.

The reason why I held the meet up in Seoul was that because Seoul is the symbolical place in Korea. Many people can gather in Seoul.

Actually, I lived in Suwon that I did not have to hold a meeting in Seoul. I just want to say that anyone could host the meet up.

And I thought many people live outside Seoul.

“The thirsty finds the well!”

Let’s open the meet up in your hometown!

If the regional meet ups are activated, will not many people start STEEMIT? If you bring your acquaintance to the meet up, they also bring their acquaintance to the meet up. Meet up could be held more frequently.

Later, local tag or café could be created like kr-seoul. I imagine kr-meetup tags are filled with various region’s meet up.

I hope someone will do it.

Thank you very much for reading this long post.

It’s also a disease that makes a lot of words.

I personally could not relax until the end of the meet up, and I was satisfied. But it seemed to be a very meaningful event as a result.

I hope anyone who participated in the meet up will enjoy it, and I hope that there will be more meet up in the future 🙂

I will participate next meet up as a participant. Please open it ^^

And if you have feedback on my article or feedback on the next one, please leave a comment! If I gather lots of meaningful feedback, I will write about that.

Thank you for reading this long article 🙂 It was @vimva!
