We already started and organized an event. We even made a new steem account for our basketball post.
The first thing you need to know is , you need a bigger steempower to influence and invite people.
Second is if you have low steempower then you have to propose an organization to a Whale or any community leader that would help you support the initiative.
Third , start being a follower than to start being a leader. You have to be a great follower to a great leader, educate yourself from them, learn from their experiences, follow their rules of the game but take your own path.
Fourth, invest to friendship. Dont invest to money, money will always come but friends dont, you have to create groups and friendships.

yeah, you have to need a lots of people to play and have fun. you have to organize it well.
how did you get the word out that it was happening?
@rjlifter. Hey buddy. I initiated the event by inviting some of my friends in University. On the first meetup, it was around 10 Steemians joined. But we kept broadcasting it and as one of the leads, I supported and upvoted their posts. Then the replication continues. I shouldered the expenses too.
