How times change
Whilst doing my research for my Saturday advert post I came across a few bizarre adverts that I found fairly interesting. The world of medicines and drugs/tablets has certainly changed for the better and after seeing what was available at the turn of the late 1800's and early 1900's you will agree.
Your kids have toothache then how about some Cocaine drops. It says it has an instant cure and not surprisingly is not around today. I know it was a go to cure for many items back then including alcoholism. Lets get you off the booze and get you on cocaine instead lol.
I like how the advert says it is in a brown bottle and will fool drunks. The bottle contains a high percentage of cocaine syrup turning the drunk in a new direction. The bottle says "they will lose their need for alcohol and gain a want for fun and life". I am not surprised and am sure Dr Harold Bogg did very well pedaling his drug induced juice.
To finish off how about some cigarettes for the kids. Is little Johnny suffering from Asthma,then why not buy him a box of smokes.The thought process is that it delivered the medicine directly to the lungs which was the selling point and quite understandable for those days.

Wow, those are pretty funny! I think they used to use a lot of things as medicine back then that people would freak out about today. Then you have the stuff that should be used as medicine today and people are still freaking out about it...
