COUGH AND COLD

The common cough and cold is a self-limited contagious disease condition that could be a symptom of a disease or a disease condition itself. It has various symptoms :

Symptoms of the common cold may include :
Cough
Pain in the throat caused by infection
Catarrh
Sneezing
Lacrimation.

They are usually caused by various viruses. Coughing is a systematic way of removing foreign and unwanted bodies or mucus from the lungs and upper respiratory tract or of irritation to the airway. It may be classified as productive or non - productive cough.

Productive cough
It is a type of cough that produces sputum or phlegm or mucus. It has several causes which are:
Viruses.
Infections.
Acute and chronic lung disease .
Gastro Esophageal Reflux.
Discharged from the nose.
Smoking or use of hard drugs.

Non- productive cough
A non - productive cough does not produce sputum . It has several causes:
Viral illnesses.
Spasm of the bronchioles.
Sneezing.
Infective Rhinitis.
