How to Protect Children from Obesity
Obesity predisposes children to diabetes and high blood pressure.
German pediatrician Hermann-Josef Kiel warned of the risk of obesity on children's health, as it threatens them with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart attacks and strokes.
To protect children from obesity, Kiel advises parents to reduce sweets to children under four years of age, not to feed them sweet beverages as much as possible, and to compensate them with water and non-sweetened tea.
Parents should also provide children with plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grain products, and refrain from the use of junk food and high-fat foods.
Children between 4 and 5 years of age should exercise at least once a week, while reducing their hours of sitting in front of TVs and smartphones.
Parents should regularly measure their weight and make sure it is appropriate for their age. If a child is overweight, go to the pediatrician immediately to change his or her diet so that he or she can regain normal weight without being malnourished.
