Who are they?
Sales company opened in Los Angeles in 1980, established worldwide (more than 90 countries) that offers nutritional products, including protein shakes, vitamins, minerals and personal care products, in order to supplement a diet and support a Active and HEALTHY lifestyle.
In addition to being a business opportunity for those people who are dedicated to offer and sell these products.

Scientific support?
Apparently they are backed by years of research, are supervised by the Nutrition Advisory Board and have distinguished personalities including a Nobel Prize winning doctor of medicine in 1998

Socially responsible?
In effect, it is a socially responsible company, that is, as part of its culture and business strategy, they put into practice business ethics, quality of life, responsible consumption and a commitment to the environment.

So, is it as good as it looks?
Based on a scientific article I found the following information:
Alternative medicine is widely used by the population, this includes the use of medicinal plants and although they seemed harmless recently it has been shown that they can have several toxic effects.

So several authors suggest that the consumption of products, specifically Herbalife, are associated with damage at the level of the liver that can range from slight changes to the need to perform a transplant.

Speaking of the case of a 63-year-old woman who entered the hospital because of fatigue, yellowing of her body called jaundice and itching, which she had started 20 days ago. She did not drink alcohol or use drugs regularly, nor did she have a history of liver disease in her family. After asking several questions to her, she mentioned that for 10 weeks she had consumed Herbalife products to lose weight, achieving a loss of 9 kilograms. After several studies she was diagnosed with acute hepatitis, a sudden inflammation of the liver caused by drugs, in this case the supplements. After suspending the intake of these products, the patient's health improved.

Conclusion
Although it was not proven with certainty that the cause of the intoxication was the consumption of Herbalife there is a clear association, although the company clarifies that its products are not medicines, I consider that like everything, in excess they can be harmful to health. The problem lies in the excessive use, in believing that being juice or milkshakes can not cause harm, in falling into the ignorance that miraculously without changing your lifestyle come magical products that will make you look better. My advice is to be careful and not get carried away by everything they tell us.
