Protect Your Vision #1 -Computer Vision Syndrome
If you are spending more than 2 hours working with computer then you have 90 % chance to develop CVS
According to the American optometric association, the average American worker spends about 7 hours with a computer.
Obviously, the number of people is very high as compared to the past. And it is believed to be higher in the near future.
So, CVS is going to a global burden unless a preventive measure is taken seriously.
COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME

These symptoms are temporary which may disappear at the end of working day. In minority of cases, they may persist for a week or even longer.Longer they persist, worse symptoms they evolve with!
POTENTIAL MECHANISM
Symptoms arise either due to extra-ocular cause or ocular cause.
Extra-ocular cause mainly includes improper placement of computer which eventually leads to muscles sprain.
This mechanism causes neck stiffness, backache, shoulder pain and headache.
The ocular mechanism causes dryness, fatigue, blurry vision, diplopia, redness. With continuous focusing, there is increased exposure to eyeball and decreased blinking rate leading to evaporation of tear which eventually cause dryness, redness and itching.Excessive use of accommodative power causes fatigues.
Other factors include poor lighting, brightness of screen, viewing angle
CVS does not carry genetic association -that's good! The risk of losing vision is very rare( not at all) -that's even better!
Why should we worry then? simply, because you are going to use a screen for a longer duration.Digital screen has become an inseparable part of our daily activities. You need to work efficiently for longer duration. That's why you need to keep yourself healty and active.
Prevention is better than cure.
Follow these Preventive methods to completely avoid risk of developing CVS
1)Position of computer screen :The computer screen should at distance of 20 to 30 inches and 4-5 inches below from the eye.
2)Upgrade your display :LCD display has an anti-reflective surface which is not present in the old fashioned display. Most of the people are using LCD nowadays but their display settings are not properly managed.
i)Brightness:- Adjust the brightness of screen approx. same as that of the working area.
ii)Contrast and text size: when you are reading on a screen it is better to increase text size.it decreases accommodative strain.Make sure that the letters are black with white background. Adjust the contrast as comfortable to you.
iii)Color temperature:-Blue light is short-wavelength visible light. They cause more strain.Lowering the blue light emitted by the display can give you long-term comfort. You can also use screen protector to filter blue light.
3)Use eyeglass with anti-reflective property:- It prevents from glare.
AR coatings gives sharper image and clear image possible.
4)Blink frequently to minimize dryness. When you are continuously focusing on screen the blinking rate decreases leading to early evaporation of tear.
5)Rest :-To prevent the eye strain , rest your eye for 15 minutes for every 2 hour use of a digital screen.
6)20-20-20 rule:-For every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
7)Artificial tear:-Use of artificial tear helps to relieve dryness. One drop in both eyes 4-6 hourly helps to moisten and lubricate the surface .
P.S: We are not promoting any brand. This photograph is only for medical purpose.
At Last,
The eye is very sensitive organ.Once a vision is lost it might not return forever.organ.So, It is essential to protect your eyesight.Every day wash your eyes with sterile lukewarm water. Use eyeglass to protect it from external pollution, sunlight or any radiation.A diet containing Vit. A helps in proper functioning of the eye.

Thanks for reading .
Any feedback and comments are highly welcome !
How much time did you spend to write this post? But it take me about 10 minutes to read and I wear glasses 👓 to prevent glare and also enabled blue light filter during reading your post. I think I implement some of your tips which is the great impact of your post. ☺ Thanks for the post and tips.
Thank you @torpedooptimist
