Why is Media Literacy Important to be taught to Students?
As technology continues to relentlessly revolutionize the system of this world, it is inevitable that lots of advancement today such as Media Literacy pave the way to increase popularity.
With the onset of the 21st Century or also known as the Digital Era, it is undeniable to say that almost every single person of this world are into such various media forms like television, internet, magazines, newspaper, books, billboards, video games, music and the like. With this, their everyday lives are greatly powered and driven by these inventions that adversely affect every single moment of their life. That’s why crucial and important enough to say that literacy in this field should be observed and practiced to mean a healthy, peaceful and an advance global community.
But before we extract the juice from its wine, let us define first what is Media literacy. Media Literacy is the ability to carefully access, evaluate, and utilize such information. With these interwoven system of communication, transmission of communication is exactly like a speed of light reaching to every single person. That’s why this article tries to dissect some of the most notable reasons why each individual shouldn’t be ignorant to such breakthrough.
First
Being literate in the field of media system promotes higher critical thinking. People receive information from almost all angles so one should be careful and skeptic in validating such information. If it means that you investigate the details and weigh its truth to ensure its authenticity, then do it because without such skill one might be in trouble in the near future leading to one’s downfall.
Secondly
Is the awareness and respect of one’s culture and lifestyle. With the vast improvement of communication, understanding the culture and lifestyle of different people becomes an easy task. When you meet and encounter foreign people behaving their ways, you immediately know the proper way to respond and treat because of the information you learned from the news, books or internet you accessed without judging and compromising one’s culture. With this, love, respect and appreciation blossom to all peoples of this world.
Thirdly
We become globally competent and capable to adapt to the international standards.
With fast speed communication, the quality of education escalates from illiteracy to high rate literacy. School has not been the only podium to obtain information but even by simply staying at homes they become oriented to some of the most valuable information. With the advent of television, newspaper, books and magazines one can possibly be as knowledgeable as to a young professional.
Lastly
It promotes immeasurable development of an individual holistically.
With this advancement, an individual’s emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical growth will be vastly improved. You develop that sense of self-appreciation to oneself after reading such inspirational stories of great people and how they emerge victorious amidst unimaginable struggles in their life. With this, you will have a positive outlook in life.
Also, you find wonderful people making intimate and life-long relationship with you. And there, that sense of belongingness comes in and makes you feel valued despite distance and status.
Moreover, if one would want to grow spiritually, life-motivating testimonies and faith-based sermons are just available to encourage you and develop your love to God.
And last thing to mention, through media information you learned latest discoveries concerning health improvement and life in general. With the advent of this information you learned valuable tips to have a healthy lifestyle, good body physique, foods good for one’s diet, treatment cure to one’s disease and medications effective to one’s health. With this, life becomes a better place to enjoy and live in.
However, media system if not properly used can be exactly opposite of these things aforementioned above.
That’s why with the right amount of knowledge, control and guidance to the younger generation, then media literacy can be a good major breakthrough to this age lighting up a harmonious, peaceful and united global community.

The rules are changing. But the game is not. I understand your positive point of view. But must say there is still nothing beating the advanced technology of nature itself. In which god created everything in his likeness. We are nearly copying and advancing on certain levels. Where one can now also see human kind getting to depend everything done by bots and computirized systems. We are actually still loosing to the big man. While we are falling in love in crypto levels. We abandon those life experiences for the simple theoretical knowlegde of things. The level is still growing so fast. It's even hard for the new generation to keep up..and it will getting even harder. If we start skipping education in it's rawest form.
