Weekly Update #3 on MedBlock - A Decentralized EHR System

in #medblock7 years ago (edited)

I held another meeting with the MedBlock team in Washington D.C. last night. In a little more than 2 hours, we covered a variety of topics critical to our project, including a plan for development of the prototype. Let’s jump right in and recap!

We are MedBlock!

As of Monday, July 31, 2017, we are officially known as MedBlock! Our website is located at medblock.com. Once we have registered with a dedicated hosting service, we will set up a “Coming Soon/Notification” graphic on the front page until we start developing the website.

Logo Contest on Steemit

The very same day MedBlock was born, I also launched a logo contest on Steemit to find the best and most creative logo for our blockchain solution. The contest is open for everyone to participate and submit their best logos until August 14, 2017, when the winners will be chosen by the MedBlock team and announced on Steemit. While all winners – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place – will receive BeyondBit tokens as prizes (1200 BeyondBits up for grabs!), only the logo of the 1st place winner will be selected as the official logo of MedBlock.

This morning, I also changed the logo type and format requirements. We’re now looking for a Vector based logo, 300 dpi, in either .ai (Adobe Illustrator) or .psd (Adobe Photoshop) format. Participants will still have to package their logo and BitShares account name in a separate post with the appropriate tags. However, they will now have to send the original .ai or .psd file to [email protected].

Please refer to the Logo Contest post for more information. I will be posting a reminder this Monday, August 7 in order to get even more logo entries from the Steemit community. The competition is still wide open, so take your time and try to capture the essence of our Decentralized EHR solution when crafting your best and most professional logo!

Project Specifications on GitHub

Prior to last night’s meeting, one of our developers prepared an excellent and very comprehensive document detailing the specifications for our solution, including a description of the steps needed to design a prototype before November. This document is part of a private GitHub repository, which will eventually be made public upon completion of the prototype before November.

Moreover, as development of the prototype progresses, all changes to the project specifications and architecture will be added to GitHub. Since MedBlock will be an open source blockchain solution, its source code will also be added to the same GitHub repository. The links to this GitHub as well as the whitepaper will be added to the website as we get closer to SteemFest2 in November.

The MedBlock Team

We currently have a small team which consists of myself, Ian Balina, and two BitShares core developers, who will be working together on the prototype. We will also find a website designer who will work exclusively on the design of the site. We will work with this designer to produce a complete, user-friendly and very snazzy website which will provide background information on MedBlock, our team as well as provide links to the whitepaper and the MedBlock prototype.

The MedBlock Team will also include advisors from Business Development, Legal, Blockchain, Marketing, Investment, Healthcare and Sales.

We have already finalized our marketing team and have a meeting with a lawyer who specializes in cryptocurrency and blockchain projects this Friday at 1 pm EST. In the coming weeks, I will work on getting the Healthcare and Blockchain advisors and some investors on board, while Ian will work on securing the Business and Legal advisors.

Planning the Prototype

For the MedBlock prototype that we are planning to present in November, ideally at SteemFest2, we have decided to keep it simple and ensure that it addresses the most basic yet essential components of our Decentralized EHR solution.

Thus, the MedBlock prototype will be a web application deployable from medblock.com that will demonstrate how patient records are loaded on the Graphene blockchain, show how patients can access the system, view their records and grant permissions to their physicians and also demonstrate how patients can communicate with their physicians at any time through messages and status updates.

Although the loading and viewing of patient records will initially be accomplished via a Command Line Interface (CLI), development of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) will proceed in parallel. As soon as the above functionalities are included in the solution, a GUI of our MedBlock prototype will be developed (essentially an application deployable from the website) in order to be presented to and better appreciated by a nontechnical audience (e.g. conference, hospitals and investors).

What’s Next?

For our meeting next week, our developers will work on the first phase of the prototype – initializing our own version of the Graphene blockchain and loading the first patient profile on the chain.

Ian will work on setting up the hosting service for the site, develop the email template and set up the social media profiles. Ian and I will also have a meeting with a lawyer who specializes in cryptocurrency and blockchain projects this Friday, in anticipation of the MedBlock ICO which we plan to launch at the end of this year!

I will work on the Coming Soon/Sign Up page on the main site and continue to review entries for the logo contest. I will also work on adding some Healthcare advisors and Investors to our team. As soon as the most essential functionalities are added to the prototype, I will use the information already described in every Steemit article I have written about our project to start working on the first draft of our whitepaper.

Many exciting developments and announcements are upcoming so stay tuned - we’ll keep you posted every week! Let me know if you have any questions about MedBlock in the comments below. Enjoy your Wednesday and I’ll talk to you all soon!
