That was a fantastically surprising fight. I feel like McGregor had a great showing. It really surprised me. I thought Mayweather was just going to toy with him. It wasn't like Floyd hasn't seen all kinds of great attacks. He is great fending off powerful attacks. That's his specialty.
What I didn't account for was the karate style. How different the stance and striking is from boxing. The new angles and the quicker punches. It was fantastic to watch. It was one of my favorite fights and I have a ton of respect for McGregor. In my eyes he proved everyone wrong. He surprised everyone including Floyd. Awesome fight.
It was indeed! I predicted as much in an earlier article, for me the fascination came in the fact that they are both excellent reader's of style. They both have a very high fight IQ, and Mcgregor is a fan of Bruce Lee's saying; the only way is no way.
The difference in style was enthralling to watch, and I, like you enjoyed it immensley. This fight was Bruce Lee vs Sugar Ray Leonard, and I don't think there has ever been one like it.
I hope others try and adopt a karate-style approach, although it will take somebody who is new and fresh, and hasn't been ingrained by traditional boxing training.
I think this will rank among a lot of people's favourite fights for years to come, awesome fight as you say; now I can't wait to see Conor back in the octagon! :-)
