Black Man Noticed He Married His 'Mother,' Forgives Her. Robin/Detroit

in #marriage7 years ago

Two calls from Robin from Detroit — one last Friday, and one this past Wednesday. Fri., Jun 8: Robin from Detroit answers last week’s Biblical Question: Do you believe in interracial dating and marriage? He’s dated outside the black race (he’s black) — but he married a black woman. He said it’s very difficult but getting better. He says she’s indoctrinated to believe that a black man is trying to control her. He thinks black women don’t like educated black men — but Jesse says they hate black men (educated or uneducated) because their mothers turn them away from men. Robin says his mother tried to turn him away from his father. She kicked him out of the house at 16. His dad was married and had a family. He taught him responsibility, and always told him the truth.

He mentions the Bible saying, “You reap what you sow.” He says most black women tell the half-truth. They say, “He who findeth a wife findeth a good thing.” But the Bible also says a wife must submit to her husband, but they don’t want to. He thinks women are smarter than what they seem. Jesse jokes since his wife's a Christian, that’s the worst kind. He doesn’t have children — they’ve been married 4 years. He had to really tell her the truth, and so it’s getting better.

Jesse asks him if he’s gone and forgiven his mother for what she did to him. He says he has, but he really hasn’t forgotten — Jesse tells him to go and forgive her so he can get rid of the nature of her inside of him, dealing with life the way a woman does. Then he can deal with a woman properly. He noticed he is married to his mother. He really listens to what Jesse says.

A few days later, Weds., Jun 13: Robin calls back and says he forgave his mother. Jesse asks if he was nervous on the way — he was scared of retaliation, victim-blaming, but it wasn’t like that. He prayed before he got there. He was very truthful with her. Her face lit up, she was smiling, and had tears. She probably had a feeling he really resented her. He doesn’t talk to her much — she calls every 6 months to see how she’s doing. She did say she was sorry. But as he did it, it was completely forgotten — it was like he genuinely forgave her. She told him things about her life before he and his brother were born. She’d never talked to him like that. Jesse’s mother did the same thing — she told him things she’d never told him before. When you truly forgive, you forget.

So Robin went home and told his wife about it, and urged her to go and forgive her father. She comes from a 2-parent household, and he tells how his wife and her father both assume things and make up false accusations. He doesn’t know if she will do it or not — he can’t force her. He says it may sound racist, but you know how black women are. They think they’re independent and know so much, when they really don't. Jesse explains it doesn’t sound “racist” because racism doesn’t exist — it sounds true. He says, “That’s what’s up!”

Jesse tells him to stay with the Silent Prayer — be honest, but patient with his wife. After 50 years, she’ll come around, and then he'll die. He laughs and hopes Jesse's joking. He really thanks Jesse. No one has ever explained it the way Jesse has. Just in that moment Jesse was telling him, he saw it within himself. There’s not a minister in his life who’s said it until he heard Jesse say it.

He’s gone to marriage counseling, and the counselors are always on his wife’s side. And he says, “What about what she’s doing?” And they lie and say they’ll get to him in a second. So the message is, “Do what simps do. Do what betas do,” and she’ll come around — but that’s not true. She gets worse whenever he caters to her. So Jesse says to take that money and instead donate it to his nonprofit (BOND), because this is what we’re doing to help men. He says: Definitely, yes sir!
