Twitter for business 101: How to promote your business with Twitter(1)

Gone are the days when you would need a million dollar budget just to advertise a product that you aint sure anyone would even be interested in. Now with as little as just $50 or nothing, you can get across to as many people as possible. To top the advantages, you can even track your marketing campaign to know what and what is not working.

With over six years actively on Twitter and worked with many brands across the platform, I would be sharing a series of guidelines to help you set up your Twitter profile and implement a successful Twitter marketing strategy.

I would share the tips in series so that it doesn't get too complicated;

• Research your competitors

Once you join Twitter, first thing you need to know is to understand the kind of people you need to follow or follow you. The easiest way to do this is to search for your competitors handle (someone in your industry that is doing very good on Twitter), study what they are doing, the kind of post they are posting and the kind of people they follow. For instance, if you are into e-commerce, you may like to check out what Amazon or Jumia does on Twitter.

• Create your profile

Make sure your profile picture, bio, and header image reflects who you are and what you do, let them also be as catchy to the eye as possible.

Let your bio be as concise and descriptive as possible, with the given 160 characters, sell yourself to potential clients

Let your profile picture be your business logo so that people can easily associate with it.

Make your first set of tweets great because when people are deciding whether to follow you, chances are they will base their decision on your most recent tweets. If they visit your profile, they will see your last 15 tweets (at least). Make sure they all don’t look the same.

Also, you should retweet others (to get a mix of logos and variety), add pictures to tweets, and do a blend of sharing links and sole text updates.
