Hello dear Steemians! Today I am going to share a 'tour' of a large seafood market that I went to a few days ago. This is a market that I go to every few months to buy seafood. The market is called Pasar Pasir Penambang (Pasir Penambang Market). This will be my entry to the #marketfriday tag of this week. For the ones who don't know, #marketfriday is an interesting and fun weekly tag initiated by @dswigle.

This is a picture of the market near the entrance. There were not many people because it was still early.

The fish on the left are markerel tuna if I am not mistaken. They are more famously known as ikan tongkol in the local language. The ones in the middle are sardine fish.

The ones on the left are the same as the previous picture (mackerel tuna). The reddish looking fish with stripes on them are threadfin bream fish (ikan kerisi).

The fish on the left is tilapia. My family and I don't eat this fish because it is the 'aquatic chicken'. They are farmed fish which can't be found in the wild. Some of the owners use antibiotics illegally and feed the fish with other animals such as leftover parts of chicken and pork. The fish on the right is the golden pomfret.

There were many smaller varieties of fish too.

Here's the other part of the same shop. This section is usually mostly crustaceans and squids. However, on the day I went there, I saw a different type of fish. They looked like large anchovies.

There are 6 types of prawns here. The ones with cheaper rate are farmed prawns while the one caught in the wild are priced higher.

This is a closer look of the fish. It looked like anchovies but large.

These are prawns caught in the wild.

My family and I wanted to prepare seafood biryani for the week so we went on looking for squids. This is a picture I took in a different shop.

These are different types of crabs I found. The ones on the left are the tigere crabs while the ones on the right are flower crabs.

There were large prawns available too besides more tiger prawns. The ones in the round tray are fish eggs.

There were so many items but not squids. One of the sellers told me that squids were not in season.

These are cockles and they are generally available almost everywhere.

20150101_003021A.jpg

These are lala. They are a type of shell fish. I love to eat them :D

Well, in the end we couldn't find squids. I guess we will be getting it from elsewhere. This is the big polystyrene box we use to keep all the seafood so that they remain intact and cool.

Since the market is far from my home, we pack all the products in a bag first. This is to prevent the ice from melting and pouring into the box. This way, the box lasts long and can be used for a long time.

This is the bill. The all costed RM 275 which is about 64.27 USD. It may look like a lot but the seafood products we got were all high quality items.
