Market Friday~The Mask Project
We all wear some kind of mask in our day today life, right??Ahemm ladies..not that beauty mask we put on when we want that glow.
I really liked these Japanese saying ~ We all have3 faces:one that we show to the world, second one for family, friends and close one and the last one that we never show to anyone which is our pure soul.
Everyone says that we have to be our true self and not to hide behind masks. But is it possible always? For example when we are not comfortable around some people and they are unavoidable in our life we sure have to put on a mask right?
Okay okay lets leave this imaginary mask, beauty mask whatever for now and move on to #marketfriday initiated by @dswigle and I bring to you real masks from India.
So there was this exibition titled 'The Mask Project' in one of the art gallery near my place.Have a look.
This one was my favorite and I agree to this. What do you think??Whats your mask?
This is another favorite one titled 'Understanding/Overfalling.The artist who was not very fond of mathematics represented his feelings of confusion and lack of understanding in several ways in this display. He included cut outs from higher level Hungarian mathematics text book(I too got scared when I spotted all those integration formulas on
the mask😂).Similar to donkey with carrots hanging in front of him,he have added a little 'Book of answers' in front of the face which is always out of reach for him.Isn't it amazing?

This one was called 'When shadow eats light' representing complimentary opposites like yin and yang, light and darkness, white and black, male and female. You can see one part of the face is removed and the other half is full.

These are Chau masks used for Purulia Chau dance~an art form in West Bengal with martial and folk origins.
Have a closer look.
The mask varies according to the character played by the dancer.
Garuda mask.According to hindu mythology Garuda is half bird and half human and is carrier of God Vishnu.
And then there were fibre glass masks painted in traditional Kavad,Phad,Gond,Madhubani and Kalighat artworks.
There were displays of international masks too from private collectors.
Papau New Guinean masks
Tanzanian.Indonesian,Malayasian
African mask
Indonesian
SriLankan.Look at those snakes.
I don't know where these are from.I have seen such mask in movies and all.Help needed here😁
Apart from masks there were paintings and art installations too.
The below one was called 'The Inner Durga'Just in love with it.
If you switch on the light it reveals a beutiful inner painting of Goddess Durga. What a beautiful representation. It says every girl has an inner Durga in her.Durga is a very fierce fighter and warrior mother Goddess who protects her believers from all evil.May be I too have an inner Durga😎Jokes apart, hats off to the artist.
More paintings.Modern day emoticon masks???
There were many beautiful paintings which am not including here.
The art installations were great too.
Made from bike parts.
Me wondering 'Whether it needs a nose job, could have been slimmer'.Just joking. Its just wonderful as it is.Unique idea and creation.
If you run out of mask you can use your palm always.👋 😁
So thats it.I had an amazing time.Hope you all enjoyed.I don't know why I always end up adding a loot of pictures.Bear with me guys.😁

Nice post! My personal favorite is the Sri Lankan mask, with the snakes. Ooh, and those mustached Chau masks from West Bengal. And I think you're right about the one frantic mask being perplexed by some mathematics. ;) Good of you to share this interesting array of creative expression. I'm upping, following, and resteeming.
