This Friday I want to share with you one of my favourite spice shops in all of Cape Town. You probably know how expensive spices and grains can be, and I have found a few spice shops in Cape Town where you can get more bang for your buck, more honey for your money.

I snapped the above pic to show the shop's name, and only after did I see under "Incense Sticks" that they sell money drawing incense sticks 😆

Also, under spices, are Mother in Law and Father in Law. I think these are South African blends of spices (do you get these in your country?), but I thought I would share with you the story of those two names - they come from Mother in Law's Tongue LOL, which is a masala curry mix, supposed to be as spicy and sharp as your mother in law's tongue. Have you ever?!

Here are all the incense sticks, which I loveee. Going to have to do some research on these, as I thought they were just nice smelling sticks, I didn't realise that they are supposed to "do" something. I spy an incense box with marijuana on... Wonder what that one is supposed to do? I'm going to have to go and buy that one to see.

All the chilli sauces. This is probably one of my favourite shelves, as I love all the combinations. Mmmm I spot my favourite Garlic Mayo. Yum. And do you see how cheap they are?? Those tubs of chilli puree are R26, which is about $2. Normally you're looking at at least R40, or about $3,50.

Besides being cheap, I also love going to Atlas because they have loads of ingredients that are difficult to find else where.

My shopping list usually looks like this when I go there:

  • Chia seeds
  • Linseeds
  • Large Coconut Flakes
  • Rice Paper Wraps
  • Quinoa (It is ridiculously cheap here!)
  • Chilli mixes
  • Curry powders
  • Rolled Oats

And then I just grab whatever else catches my eye. Yum!!

Your thoughts matter to me. I upvote each and every well thought out comment that graces my post. To encourage dialogue and interaction. 💜

Thank you always for such a cool shout out that you do on every Market Friday post! You are the best!

A Spice Shop you say? I can honestly say that there is one here in the Washington DC area that is my absolute favorite and has spices from all over the world and because it is a bulk buyer also, you really make out well! To tell you the truth, mother-in-law and father-in-law must be a South African thing because I have never heard of it. Of course, that means nothing! I have not heard of a lot of things. But I have heard of mother-in-law's tongue and I can remember my grandmother buying my sister when she got married. LOL I'm pretty sure she thought that her mother-in-law's tongue was pretty Sharp. Oh my God!

Take a look-see at all those incense sticks! I love them too. Do something? I always thought they were to cover up something? Oh my God! There's one with marijuana on it? To smell like it or cover it up? Now you're going to have to go and buy one so that I can see. You have your mission. I expect to hear back on this!

You certainly have a nice mix of chili sauces. I have never tried garlic Mayo but it doesn't sound interesting and I have put Garlic in my mayonnaise. Does that count? This certainly does look like a well priced store. And now I'm to my favorite part of the store where there are spices and spices and spices. Nobody can live without chia seeds but I have never tried linseeds. What are they and what do you use them for? I do not cook with curry powders but I would like to learn to. I want to thank you for being part of Market Friday and for taking the time patients to put a post such a sis all together. Thank you again again and again!

Love to you! Upped and steemed

hehe, i love Market Friday, it's my fave too!

I'm gonna have to try some of that marijuana incense sticks.. i'm going to be in the area on Friday, so I will get some then and report back... Yes m'am!

Ooh if you have been to Europe you have surely tried garlic aioli? it is the same or very similar to our garlic mayo.

I have about 5 tsp of chia seeds every day, they are one of the healthiest fats you can have. Linseeds are similar to flax seeds, also good fat, and good for digestion. I love them

Ah and curry powders are literally the easiest way to make curries - just fry them with onions in a pan, add your meat, veg and maybe yoghurt or something similar (depends on your curry style you are making) and then you are done!

I love #marketfriday! thanks for starting it xxx

Oh, I have the garlic mayo! I eat chia seeds all the time, I sprinkle them on everything! :)

I thought they might be flax seeds, but was not familiar with them. I will have to try them. As for the curry powders! Thank you! I never know what to do with them!

And the incense... oh, yes!!!

I want the report!!!

Love to you! You are the best!

hehhe, okay, I am on it! Going to try to pop in there tomorrow 🥰

Thats a really interestign market, we used to burn Incence occassionaly, but stopped that after our incense holder seemed to get lost in a move or its in one of our boxes in the attic that I didn't chekc properly, I have heard some of them can be quite therapeudic so maybe I should look into it again sometime

oh yeah, i love the smell. we burn them at work and it is just such a chill smell!

I plan to pick up some it's weekend its been to long without them :)

It had been a while since I went through your publication, @princessmewmew. and it's like going into a store with a lot of smells. I'm a fan of incense sticks. I have my favorites for everything: to relax, to inspire me, to call prosperity and love (I saw that there is of opium). I even use them to keep them in the drawers of towels and sheets. Leave the scented fabric! Also in food I like to use spices that give a special touch to foods, such as curry, oregano, pepper, nutmeg (natural aphrodisiac), cinnamon, ginger. Like there, here in Venezuela spices are very expensive. I think if I went into a store like that, I'd bring a little bit of everything just to try them. Delicious and exquisite post!;)

thanks so much Nancy! I love the incense sticks too, we have rose ones at work and they are very delicate and soft, makes our shop smell special

My favourite is cumin! I love it with mexican food, indian food and with my eggs and a bit if paprika! yuumm!

Lovely market Friday post, I need some of that money drawing incense;) The poor Mothers in law always get the stick for their sharp well meaning? tongues! Wonder if Father in law's tongue is a tad milder?
I love going to the spice shops here in Durban as well, they have the most interesting stuff plus their spices always look super fresh and cost next to nothing.
