Greens, fruits and vegetables!
The weekend is approaching and following the old routine I have to prepare for the weekly visit to the market. We try to return to our normal lives. Of course with the necessary precautions.
So, we went to the market for the usual supply. I prefer the market instead of the supermarket. Because in spring the best products are on the market. Greens, fruits and vegetables!
The general belief is that food made from fresh vegetables is very healthy and full of vitamins. Of course, that can be said about salads. But today is not about salads.
There are two big temptations in our market. Flowers and vegetables! My main target are vegetables but the first place I stop is for flowers. Especially if my wife is with me.
Flowers, a passion common to all. And our passion and spring we buy many flowers, seedlings. It costs quite a bit and I try to stop. The best way would be to bypass the flower area but fail. Visit it now more for the joy of the eyes and the soul and to take some pictures for you.
This time the favorite flower was a jasmine. Unfortunately, I don't have room in the yard to plant another bush.
This post is for #MarketFriday, this challenge imagined, proposed and hosted by @dswigle. I can say that she is a professional, you can see HERE her post, to convince yourself that I am right.
Unlike her, I am an amateur who does nothing more than a kind of report, a simple documentary of a visit to the market and sometimes what I can do with those purchases.
Now I leave the flowers and move on to the main purpose, which is to procure what is needed for food.
In the nearby market (I'm glad it's so close to my house) there are, of course, several fruit and vegetable stores but I prefer to buy from sellers who do not have access to the main area. I like to buy from small producers who live in the villages near Bucharest and who sell at the edge of the market. They have better and fresher merchandise.
Sometimes they put the goods right on the sidewalk, which is not exactly to my taste and quite dangerous in these times. I don't buy from them, even if I like their vegetables.
So I prefer the stalls arranged and that respect the hygiene rules. After I bought everything from the list I closed another market on Friday and I am preparing for the second part, the processing.
I cooked at home. A vegetable soup, in fact a borscht, meaning a sour soup. A dish that I really like now, a dish that I hated when I was a kid. A dish that includes many vegetables and greens.
Very easy to prepare. Boil in a pot with plenty of water. Green onions and dried onions, carrots, celery, lettuce, parsley, bell peppers. Salt and pepper.
At the end I add the borscht. Borscht is obtained by fermenting wheat bran and I also bought it from the market. When I was a child, my grandmother made borscht at home, in a big clay pot.
Finally reach the plate. A soup that is very tasty both hot and cold.
I presented this recipe more schematically just to give you an idea. I don't think anyone would be tempted to try.
A flower can save anything, I hope #alwaysaflower will save this post too ...
Great photography. You captured it well.
Thank you!
