So bitcoin isn't safe for DN purchases.

Now I am not supporting illegal activities, but just to inform people.
So, now that is out of the way let's get into it. Bitcoin was a big favorite on the darknet. Still is, but that's coming to an end. A group of computer scientists traced back 100, i repeat 100 darknet market accounts to real people. 20 of that 100 made purchases on the original silk road. And from them placing an order, have up their name, addresses and other personal information.

It wasn't like they cracked the blockchain code or pulled some crazy hacking. All they did was search for links between those two sets of addresses. They found more then 130 transactions made to those darknet market accounts.
Even though bitcoin was supposed to preserve your anonymity, they easily linked the transactions to public accounts. 48 were to wiki leaks (not a bad thing), and 22 of those were payments to the silkroad. Even though that's been dead for years. It's still a little crazy that they were able to find out in the blockchain. Of some of them they found locations, genders full names, and ages. Some where also linked to bitcoin talk accounts, which makes sense. They were using the currency.

So, if they found all this then law enforcement can find people faster, and more efficiently. Just a side note in 2016 reddit sent a post out saying that some, or maybe even all of some the users private messages were turned over to laws enforcement. Now anyone that knows anything about the darknet, knows that reddit is where a lot of people go to learn and talk about things that are on the markets. Like vendors, prices, quality of products, news markets/vendors. So that could be really bad for some people. A lot of social media platforms do this. So always remember what's said in a private message might not be so private. So, it's just not safe to use bitcoin on there as much as it was at one time.
