What Is Manna And How Is It Different???

Many ask what Manna is?

The quick and dirty answer is that it is a cryptocurrency that was designed to be given to people as a basic income. The goal is to eliminate/reduce global poverty.

However, like many blockchain projects, there is a lot more going on than just that.

Let us start by looking at the goals of the project.

  1. Implement an economically impactful basic income on the blockchain, especially to help some of the world's poorest people, children, and developing nations.

  2. Enable targeted direct giving for highly efficient, effective altruism, utilizing the technological benefits of cryptocurrency and smart contracts.

  3. Build a global network of socially conscious businesses, nonprofit organizations, and their customers and supporters, using the Manna currency as a tool to create a more equitable economy for a better future.

This is from the Manna White Paper.

To my knowledge, Manna is the only token that is designed for the purpose of basic income that is operational on a blockchain and issuing publicly traded currency. This is a remarkable achievement and the start of completion of number 1. The blockchain already passed 1M blocks which is a rather large blockchain at this point.

A great deal of the success of any cryptocurrency is kicking off the "network effect"as summarized under Metcalfe's Law. Essentially, the more users (nodes), the more the value of a system is.

This applies to STEEM, Bitcoin, and every other cryptocurrency. The advantage about developing the Manna ecosystem is that it is a token that is given to people on a weekly basis. Other than signing up and adhering to the KYC rules, there is nothing else for one to do outside of referring people. The utility in the token is simple breathing. I like to call it the "Proof of Breathing" concept. Prove you are a unique human and you will get the tokens.

One of the reasons I am certain that the Manna project will be successful is because of a simple premise when it comes to money. People use whatever currency they have. The reason why the people in the U.S utilize the dollar is because that is what is deposited into their accounts. No American sat down to weigh the benefits of the USD versus the Euro and concluded that the dollar was better. It is simply a matter of spending what one has. The situation is the opposite in Germany. There, people are paid in Euros, so that is what they spend.

As the cryptocurrency market moves from the infancy stage, we will see more commerce done in tokens. This is where Manna is setting itself up to be in an ideal position. There is no limit to the number of people who are eligible for this project. With the number of wallets growing each week, we are seeing steps towards the setting the network effect into action.

With a goal is to create an ecosystem where individuals and organizations come together to help out each other and humanity. It is through giving that the human race moves ahead. Individuals in the world need the basic necessities and Manna is designed to help people get that. However, there are also fields of research, disaster relief, and other needs which financial resources are required. Bringing people together for such causes is another aim.

Finally, one of the most intriguing aspects of this program is the children's wallets that are going to be set up. For those old enough to remember, Gary Coleman made a lot of money as a child actor on Diff'rent Strokes. Even though the money was set up in trust, his parents burned through $8M leaving him broke. The wallet program from Manna is going to establish a weekly distribution to children. This is done so that when they reach adulthood, they will have some resources for things such as schooling. The advantage is that the blockchain will have programmed into it that the funds are not to be released until a certain date (the age of majority I imagine). This protects anyone trying to get at the tokens.

This is slated to go operational later in 2018. The nice part about this from an currency standpoint is that it does take tokens out of circulation for long periods of time. This means that all other tokens issued should appreciate in value compared to other currencies. While this looks like it will help those who invest in Manna, it really helps those most in need, the ones who are depending upon these tokens to help provide for some of the basic necessities. In the West, an extra dollar or two a week means nothing. Yet in some third world nations, this could be a couple of meals for a family.

I hope seeing some of the expanded view of what Manna is looking to achieve helps. It is a project I felt comfortable throwing my weight behind. It is a lot more than just providing a basic income to people. We are looking at an organization that is set on working towards uplifting all of humanity.

A bold initiative? Certainly. However in only three weeks of distribution, there were over 28K people who received tokens.

Let us all do our part to help it keep growing.

Ever since I heard of Manna, it seemed like a cool project. Even though it seems like an unobtainable goal to fix poverty, the people who made Manna don't care, and still do their part to fix it.

Even if this project will only reach 10% of it's intended potential it will still revolutionize how we think about money. And of course the wallet for children it's more than awesome because it can protect from abuses which I'm sure are happening in a lot of cases.

Awesome article as always. Can't wait to read the whitepaper and become more invested in Manna. It just dawned on me that cryptocurrency is in somewhat of a bubble not in terms of price but in terms of relevancy. Not enough people truly understand it and that is a fundamental problem. With Manna, it is very easy to explain and will allow for the "common man" to understand it allowing for better resonation and acceptance. What will spark the revolution that changes everything is it Manna or Steem or a culmination of all cryptocurrencies to take down the banksters.

The white paper is out...it is on the website.

oh!just check out it.Thank you

I've set myself up in Manna and recieved my first week of universal basic income.

I've never thought of using it for kids. We could do this for the outreach program I have with the indigenous Aeta kids that we are supporting for the past 3 years.

Absolutely. The idea behind the wallet program is to go through non profit organization. Part of the problem with setting things up for kids is the verification to make sure they are real. Going through organizations that deal with the children can help to verify them. Hence the wallets can be set up and tokens distributed to them each week and allowed to grow.

thanks to you I recently joined Manna,, even if it is 2 dollars per week here in Venezuela is enough to eat 3 days quiet .. because the dollars are very high compared to the national currency of my country ..

Excellent. I am glad you joined @joelgonz1982.

I hope you spread the referral link to all your friends and family members. Remember, you referring people gets you in the bonus pool which will help you get more Manna each week off each referral...for a period of 1 year.

We would love to see this program spread throughout all of Venezuela since conditions are horrific down there.

If the situation is ugly .. If I told you already, there were several friends who joined Manna

My favorite part of the white pages was when they explained how they plan on adding value to the coin by backing it up with other investments.

People who don’t see the value of $1 or $2 haven’t thought about how we can leave the account for 10 months at a time and then cash out to give ourselves a savings account.

Can you imagine the power of a United States with a savings account?

I set my parents up with accounts, they can’t tell steem from bitcoin and think you have to “know computers” to know crypto.

In 10 years, they’re going to be happy they did that.

I wanna earn Manna Coins if you help me @taskmaster4450
