This is a concept that I have heard before.

And in truth it means more to me these days than it did back then. I personally believe that the universe is spanned by a medium - lets call it a divine dimensional fabric of space time - to which all, including humanity is connected. Also that this fabric engages in far more than one-way communication.

Thus, the act of prayer, meditation, concentration, thinking - attains a greater meaning.

Of course - there is something to be said for "making one's own luck". To rely upon thoughts, etc. alone will not get things to be. There needs to be a synergy of circumstances - and 'you', the reader, are one of those ingredients.

A small action on your part may have a synergistic wave effect upon the futures of yourself and others.

And there usually is very little cost in 'trying'.
