Mallorca - What to do when it rains
With 300 days of sunshine a year, you would expect to go hiking, biking, swimming, snorkelling, golf and the list goes on. But what happens when it's one of those day when the rain just does not stop. ....
Mallorca is well known for its caves, the most famous being the caves of drach, however if you don't have time or transport to get to the east of the island, the then caves of Genova is a great option
Just a 5 minute drive out of Palma you will reach the Caves of Genova. Here you will take a guided tour that lasts for about half an hour. You don't need any hard hats or torches but you are told not to touch anything
They were discovered in 1906 when local farmers were trying to build a well to store water, they are 36 metres deep and extend for a kilometre.
You will find an underground world of stalactites and stalagmites, with inter connecting galleries and the best part. It's not tourisy at all.
The caves are based inside a Mallorcan styled restaurant with great local food, wine and makes for a great place to relax after exploring.
