Official launch of MAIDSAFE Alpha 2 - Thursday 21-9-2017

in #maidsafe7 years ago (edited)

Yesterday, Thursday, September 21, there have been great innovations in Maidsafe.

After a hard work by the team of developers and a year after the appearance of the first Alpha version of the Safe network has finally come to light the expected Alpha2.
The star of the update is the network access control mechanism (Autenticator) that allows users to securely authenticate to the SAFE network, while protecting their access credentials.

NEW OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Coinciding with the launch of the Alpha 2 the reinforced marketing team has also launched the new Web, which is more attractive and modern than the previous one.

AUTENTICATOR

Autenticator is integrated into the Safe Browser (it supports Windows, OSX and Linux and Android) so the installation process is much simpler than in previous versions that we had to configure the proxies etc.

The desktop version of the SAFE browser will come with two tutorial applications built into it. The Web Hosting Manager and SAFE Mail. These applications are old well-known to those who have participated in recent tests.

"The Web Hosting Manager allows users to create their own public identification, and upload and publish content instantly. SAFE Mail provides end-to-end encrypted e-mail using the recipient's public key to encrypt the message. "

The two Android Apps that come with this release are Authenticator, and SAFE messages.

What do I need to participate in the tests?

As has been the case with more recent test networks, you will be prompted to obtain an invitation code to participate in this Alpha. To do this, you will need to have a basic user account in the SAFE network forum.

What's next?

Alpha 2 interacts with Network only one way. As a client using the Safe Browser and Aytenticator.
When Alpha 3 comes out we can interact from home as clients and as nodes running a vault.
Summarizing:

(Seen in the official forum)
Alpha 2: client mode only (using browser)
Alpha3: client mode using browser and / or run a vault (can only do routing)
Alpha4: client mode using browser and / or run a vault (can do routing and storage)
Alpha?: client mode using browser and / or run a vault (can do routing and storage and farming.

TIMING

It is assumed that the Alpha 3 has been developing parallel to the Current Alpha2. In official forums it is commented that the bulk of the programming is already done so the appearance of new versions can be significantly faster than usual. It is a project that is even older than Bitcoin and have been working on it for more than a decade. Has the ability to integrate all the current internet within it, but in a decentralized and secure anonymous way. I can not wait more.

Installation in a Linux environment is the easiest thing, here is the process that did not take more than 5 minutes.

I've been waiting for maidsafe for ages. And had an interest in it before Steemit and ipfs took off. Hope they can get it out there before others steal their thunder.

Its a long way to the top if ya wanna rock and roll.
