However, as he was passing through Varanasi, he felt the urge to answer the call of nature and needed to put the lingam down but he also remembered the condition. So he saw a child nearby (who was Lord Ganesh in disguise) and gave him the lingam and asked the boy to keep it with him and not to place it on the ground in any condition but the boy placed it at the site of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and it has remained there ever since.
