Kashi Vishwanath Temple
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, also known as the Golden Temple, is one of the most revered and ancient temples in India, located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the major deities in Hinduism, and is considered one of the holiest places in India.
It is said to have been built in the 11th century by King Raja Man Singh of Amber, and it has undergone several renovations and restorations over the years. The temple is located on the western bank of the holy river Ganges, and its imposing architecture and intricate carvings are a sight to behold. The temple complex comprises several smaller shrines dedicated to various deities, including Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, and Goddess Parvati. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, in the form of a lingam, a representation of the divine energy of the universe.
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is also associated with several legends and stories from Hindu mythology. One such legend tells of the demon King Ravana, who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Ravana is said to have performed penance at the site where the Kashi Vishwanath Temple now stands, and it is believed that Lord Shiva appeared to him and granted him a boon. According to the legend, Ravana asked for the lingam of Lord Shiva, and Lord Shiva granted his wish. However, Ravana was warned that if he placed the lingam on the ground before reaching Lanka, he would not be able to move it again. Ravana agreed to the condition and started his journey back to Lanka with the lingam. However, as he was passing through Varanasi, he felt the urge to answer the call of nature and needed to put the lingam down but he also remembered the condition. So he saw a child nearby (who was Lord Ganesh in disguise) and gave him the lingam and asked the boy to keep it with him and not to place it on the ground in any condition but the boy placed it at the site of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and it has remained there ever since.
Today, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most popular and revered temples in India, and it attracts thousands of devotees from all over the country and the world. The temple complex is decorated with lights, flowers, and garlands, and devotees offer prayers and offerings to Lord Shiva, seeking his blessings and guidance.
