Magic the Gathering (MTG) Tech Talk - Prime Speaker Vannifar

Today's spoilers from Ravnica Allegiance looks very promising especially in other formats like commander/EDH for that matter, let's look at this card now.

Prime Speaker Vannifar
CMC: 2GU
Legendary Creature - Elf Ooze Wizard
Power/Toughness: 2/4

Rule Text
T, Sacrifice another creature: Search your library for a creature card with converted mana cost equal to 1 plus the sacrificed creature's converted mana cost, put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.

For those that remember Birthing Pod back in the old day, it is exactly that except it is on a creature, so you won't be able to use the effect right away unless you can give her haste.

Otherwise for those that never played Modern post Fate Reforged, Birthing Pod was banned as a result for being too good of a engine to the point that it pushed other creature based decks out of the format at the time Birthing Pod was legal.

If any reason MTG got cards that can be used with Birthing Pod, it would be hard to unban such a card.

Although there are some key difference between the two cards as you can't play Prime Speaker Vannifar on turn two. This card can also be killed with normal creature removal so be expected to have this card dying every time it hits the board.

Otherwise, if you ever untap with this card, you can start going up the chain to the point where you can tutor for the most powerful threat or you start comboing off with the uses of Intruder Alarm as any creature entering the battlefield will untap your Vannifar in which you just keep going up the chain.

For now I will stop here for Vannifar. This set looks appealing outside of Standard.

Hope to see those who are attending your local prerelease on Jan 19 - Jan 20.
