5. Champ-Dollon Prison, Switzerland –It wasn’t intended to be luxurious and comfortable. A couple years ago, the prison was facing multiple problems that includes overcrowding with diseases and rioting before revamping into what looks like now a 3-star hotel, wide, spacious, clean bathrooms and latest facilities. Doesn't it remind you of university life ?

4. JVA FuhISbuettel Prison, Germany- Castle ? Fairy tale for criminals? It certainly is unique and separates from the rest in terms of design. Only long sentenced prisoners are allowed in this prison. The perks of being in the castle are the ample amount of space to move around, a couch, a private shower and toilet. As for the facilities, the prison provides prisoners washing machines and dryers to do their laundry, a recreation room and a conference room.

3. Sollentuna Prison, Sweden – Umm..the furniture looks like they're from Ikea. Prisoners are allowed to cook their own meals in a fully furnished kitchen. They are encouraged to work out in the gym which looks better than some of the gym out there. Tired? Bored? Kick back and enjoy watching TV on their own comfy couch. While many prisons are shutting down in Sweden due to the lack of prisoners ( if only someone could give them business damn it! ), Sollentuna is surely not one of them.

2. Justice Center Leoben, Austria – Situated in Styria, Austria, this prison complex is fully occupied with 205 inmates. It was built in November 2004 and designed by Joseph Hohensinn. They preach that everyone is free and has equal rights and also they should be treated with respect. There are facilities like spa, gym and indoor games. A Prisoner has his own private bathroom in each cell with a small kitchen and living room TV. They have an abundance of natural light from the full size windows that's leads to the balcony. Three courtyard in total and each communal section has an outdoor living space for the prisoners for social interaction and to walk around. This sounds like a luxury apartment and it's no wonder why the prison is fully booked. Inmates actually live a regular life in there.

1. Bastoy, Norway – I’d say this has to be the best looking prison. I mean come on overseeing a beautiful scenery with fresh air and surrounded by nature. This is more of a getaway than prison. Prisoners get to enjoy sunbathing at the beach, fishing, gym, football,watching movies, sauna, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. This has to be the lowest security prison in the world as the whole island is used as prison and only consist of 69 prison employee. It is like a small community in an island that includes shops, library, health services, school, church (yeah go repent !), information office and so on. Inmates are housed in wooden cottages and work the prison farm. I bet they serve pretty darn good food there. The entire island’s community are run under human-ecological values.
