PREREQUISITE OF MARRIAGE

There are certain pre conditions or requirements that must be met before marriage can be concluded. These condition include the approval and involvement of the spouse's families, the payment of bride-wealth and religious ritual or ceremony. The effect of these is to give legality and legitimacy to the marital relationship.

RULES OF MARRIAGE
Endogamy:- Is a rule which requires an individual to marry within his own group and not to select wife or husband from outside. Member of a social group are not allowed to marry one another, but not one's sister or brother or close kinsmen
EXOGAMY:- this is a rule of marriage that requires one to marry outside one's group of kinsmen. In exogamous societies or groups, marriage between members of a group is prohibited.
INCEST TABOO:- These are rules that prohibit sexual intercourse with close blood relatives (father-daughter, Mother-Son, Brother-Sisters) and exist today in virtually every society
