Old people deserve Love, Respect and Peace and not Struggles

in #love7 years ago (edited)

A very sad incident occurred couple of days back. It was an encounter with a Cab Driver...

I don’t understand sometimes where the world is going, there is one side who is thriving in all possible ways and then there is another side who has no solace at all. It is so difficult to see these hard facts of life. Whenever I face these kind of instances I really feel how lucky I am to have the life that I have. There are times when I get into a brooding mode for little things and then when I encounter like what I did they make me realise that I am very privileged and a blessed one.

A couple of days back I was getting back home from a dinner and I had to take a cab. A cab was passing by, I stopped it and got into it, I was a little busy on my phone hence without lifting my head I told the driver my destination. After almost half the distance I realized that he was going at a very slow pace almost at a speed of 30, so I kept my phone away and checked with him, what was the matter? He replied back in a very frail voice that he will drive little fast but he can’t go more faster. I could figure out from behind that he was a very old man and his hands were also trembling while driving, I was finding something very odd, so I did not push him much, then very curiously I asked him what his age was. He said he was 83 Years old, It was a shock for me, I could not believe that a person of this age also had to work for a living. I asked him why he is working at such a very old age and he told me that his son was not working, he was on alcohol so he had no choice but to earn to support the family of his son. The way he said was Madam what to do if I don’t earn what the children will eat. It was so heart breaking. I was almost in my tears. I told him – I would like to help him financially in some way, and to my utter surprise he refused to take any help. He said please give me only what is the earning from the drive and nothing more as a help. He also said, today one time you will help me then after that what, I don’t want to get dependent on easy money. I asked for his phone number, if I could do something for him on a long term basis, poor man did not even have that. He seemed so much dejected with life, he said “Let it be Madam, you heard me is more than enough”

He was little hard in his words but I can completely understand why he must be like that after going through all the pain in life.

So much of dignity he held for himself, which I don’t see it even in the younger people who are so much capable of everything.

It was really very heart-breaking to see a person reaching at this stage of life and still fighting for survival needs. And it’s a shame on the government policies that when they think of all the economic development they overlook the very basics. The son of this elderly man the biggest culprit, I have no words for such people, they are utter disgusting that they cannot take care of their old parents.

I wish the man get some relief and I hope that the younger generation is more sensitive towards the old people in their families and treat them with love, care and respect.

I am about to cry...
we also have so many old, very old people who are trying to earn on their lives - some life problems or just low pensions (100-150 ysd per month!)
it's very sad. I have the same idea - where this world is going.. why were these people working all their lives and pay high taxes to get so low pensions?!
I often see old women selling some greens or flowers or anything that I don't actually need but I always try to buy something just to help..

and this story with an alcocholic son is so painful..

That's very kind of you my dear. Always be the person you are with the noble gestures you have.
Some hard facts of life that we face on a daily basis and cant do much about it :(

My mom likes to watch movies or tv-programmes which tell about such stories and such people, and she takes it too close to her heart and always cries
I am the same as her so i even don't watch them, because I take it as my personal pain, but we can't help anyone and our sufferings will remain just our sufferings-(

Wao almost make me cry dear Nainaz I think I will now, is a very tragic story pitifully much of the elderly, come to this age unemployed, perhaps we should give thanks that this gentleman has a taxi and is not on the street begging for alms , here and in many parts of the world there are many in this condition and if you came to Venezuela you would see such a level of poverty in some streets that would devastate the pain, we are very sensitive beings to these stories.

It is terrible that the son is an alcoholic and he is the breadwinner, I wish I had accepted your help, there are so many elderly people who need a helping hand, I recently met a man like an oak, lucid of 90 years bedridden because he does not have to pay leg operation that has to be done, a story I plan to share and find a way to help him, I was moved and see him in bed broke my heart.

Well done .. interesting

News from dropahead: How to give back to the dropahead Project in 15 seconds or less

What a touching post! Made me tear up! I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the elderly. I worked a nursing home as a CNA for years. Those people became family. Their families became my family too. Thanks for the great read! I resteemed this post and followed you! Please check out some of my blogs too :) God bless!

Old people deserve Love, Respect and Peace and not Struggles

Life has taught me that you usually get what you deserve.

For example: If you work your entire life expecting to get a big pension from the government then I have bad news.

To live is to struggle, without it, life would be boring and pointless.

Yes my dear, but I would still feel pained if I see a person at 80 struggling for a living and taking up the burden of his family when it should be the other way around. I do also understand that this is his destiny which he has to but everyone deserves peace after reaching at this stage of life

Really nice post. It was an incredible and very well written post. I don't think people should work when they become elder. Only one thing bothers me, and that this is "Parenting". I really think that like 99% your kid's future depends on parents. And if they didn't give him enough attention and worked with him and when he becomes adult and he has chosen alcohol or any other not very socially acceptable lifestyle it is mostly parents fault. I am myself a father, and I truly understand that this is the hardest role in the world. But if it is done only for a check, parents get what they deserve. I am not talking about college years when most of us are getting out and do stupid stuff, but afterwards, usually, people tend to get their head together and work towards the best future they can get. And if parents have not given the skills to do so, so it is parents fault. I am not talking about money, I am talking about interaction with other people, emotional control, rational thinking and so on. Of course, there are exceptions, but in most of the cases it is always the same "parenting"

Very inspirational. Be kind spread kindness.
