Olaf, the love expert, is remembered while all other Frozen characters fade away from our memories. Olaf’s sacrificial love remains. When the songs of Elsa’s rage of narcissistic freedom and the terrors of the marshmallow abominable snowman are forgotten our good friend Olaf is still remembered. There is something beyond his charm and naivety. Behind layers of snow there is a burning heart. Anna really did not know what love was until she met Olaf who told her, “Love is… putting someone else’s needs before yours.” For Olaf, love is warm hugs and all kinds of warm feelings inside. For Olaf love is more than words as he says, “An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart.” This is ironic for a snowman to be so warm and cuddly and that is just the nature of "true love".
The one thing Olaf desires most will kill him. Olaf simply desires a warm hug but he will be melted away into a puddle. He likes to be close to warm things but knows that he should not touch the fire. He dreams of being gorgeously tanner in summer. Olaf himself expresses the paradox, “The hot and the cold are both so intense. Put ‘em together, it just makes sense!” We can see that Olaf dreams of warm love but is dimly aware of the sacrifice this will cost. It is at the point he finds Anna locked in the room he demonstrates this love. He uses his long carrot nose to pick the door lock. Then he starts a fire for Anna knowing very well he will melt away just to keep her warm. Olaf is willing to sacrifice melting for love says, “Some people are just worth melting for.” My frozen heart was melted when a friend upvoted and supported my son’s post @artjohn. I will remember this friend for a long time. I finish this post with a quote from my friend, “I sent (him) all I have.” Thank you for your generosity and support.
