Love on it's own is a word that is very simple yet ambiguous in it's meaning and interpretation to different people. Before we proceed, do you know that the way you love yourself determines how you love others and that you can not give what you don't have? obviously! it's not possible.

What is self- love and why do you have to love yourself first before you love others?

After a long thought, I discovered that loving oneself means understanding everything that one is, mastering oneself and accepting the person that one is.

It has to do with unconditionally taking up the responsibility of struggling to be a better person, forgiving oneself for the past and living the best out of the situation. It is coping and making better that which does not seem well in the first place.

All these and many more are what self-love stands for. But you find out that a lot of people do not even have this love for themselves not to talk of sparing it for others.

Some individuals do not even respect their emotions and feelings; how then can this be applicable to someone else. Most people do not even know how to forgive themselves and move on... how do you wish to forgive others?

I really feel sorry for people who mistake self-love as being selfish... no; Self-love is not selfish, rather it helps you to love others perfectly. It helps you to understand what hurts you so that you will not hurt others. It assist one in understanding that everyone has one life, so that you will not make the mistake of trying to take another person's life.

Self-love helps one to give peace to other's because there is a full understanding of the presence of peace in one's life. In a nutshell, self love makes one treat others just the way he/she would like to be treated.

How to grow self-love in 5 different ways.

1. Master yourself

A lot of people are so used to being around people, under one company or the other that they have lost touch with who they are and have given away themselves without knowing it.

On the other hand, some can not even stay in their own company for some hours without feeling bored. By the way if you do not know that you are your best companion then you have totally lost it.

Mastering oneself has to do with constant discovery of who you are, good relationship and acceptance. By so doing you begin to understand yourself bettter, you begin to place your hands on why you act the way you do and you begin to live to your full potential.

Mastering is a bold step on the journey of self-love; by so doing you begin to behave right just the way you should to people in your life and those you will meet in the nearest future.

When you are fully on the know of yourself, life becomes better than it was, you are at the top of your game and you grow into a more successful individual.

2. Withdraw from the noise

When we look around these days the noise and the distraction is so much that if one is not careful, one will be lost in all what's not.

If you are willing to know yourself better and improve self-love, then you must be willing to withdraw in order to succeed. Go and focus on what makes you feel good.

Following the crowd is not the way to be happy, sometimes you need to go away from the noise into a serene place because that is where speaks the loudest.

3. Develop a positive outlook towards life

You can not desire light yet you are focused on staying in the dark. If you really want love, you must first of all see that you create a positive impression in your heart; this impression is what spreads around you and over you.

Developing the love for yourself is eventually how you will gradually and genuinely sow real love around you. Sowing real love is to respect people, their opinions, space, letting go, spreading peace etc just like you will do for yourself... this is the essence of knowing to love oneself "first" not "more" than others.

4. Be sincere with yourself
Sincerity is key, sincerity is telling yourself the truth about things without minding how bitter or unpleasant that might seem. The best way to go around this is by understanding that lots of things does not always have to be in our favour.

Since learning to be sincere is accepting the capacity of our strength, making good use of it with good motive, then we are sure to view and affect others just the same way we do to our own self.

5.Understand that to love self first is not to love it more than you should love
others

"Love your neighbour just as you love yourself!"

That commandment was given because it is very impossible to give what you do not possess. It became the first because, love makes the world go round. We have a lot of chaos in the world today because it is either people want to love when they have not loved themselves yet or people are busy loving themselves more than they should love others.

Loving oneself well enough makes it very easier to love others perfectly just like we are called to love them. It might interest you that in the mysteryof love, you feel the need to love others because you can not stand to see another person not have the kind of experience you had while loving yourself genuinely... This is what true love is. It comes with sacrifice, charity, self-denial, patient, kindness, goodness and every other virtues.
