There Is No Such Thing As Altruism
Everything we do, we do because one of two reasons: the desire to receive pleasure, and to escape from suffering, this is the human nature, and it's called egoism.
The truth is that we are all connected in one system, and each of us has influence on the system, however the ego adds a "wall" that makes us feel separated from the rest of the world.
The ego is not good and not bad, because it is our nature, this is how we created, the question is how we use it, in a good way or in a bad way.
For example, using the ego in a bad way might be to take advantage of other people directly, such as to steal. A mom won't steal from her child because she see him as her's, this is what we call 'love', but people are stealing from other people because they are not feeling connected to them.
So using the ego in a good way should come from the understanding that we are all connected, and therefore, it's to benefit and help others, and they will benefit you back.
We cannot be not egoistic, because this is our nature, but we can understand that we are all one, and that hurting the system is hurting myself, and contributing to the system is to contribute to myself.
