Chapter 3 Love Hurts, Even if it is not meant to be!

Ella and Dave leading their life with the long distance relationship. It wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t bad either. Ella convinced herself this is how life works. She stopped worrying about her career because she knew if she wants to be with Dave, her dreams are not going to comes true. She fought for that. They met just to discuss that, Dave flew down to surprise her to tell her how much he loved her.

Listening to him, she decided it is worth leaving her dreams someone so loving, caring. She still knew it is not working out, she still could feel the indifference when they were together. Dave never seemed to understand her at all. Ella never bothered about the things Dave cared about. It was a perfect mismatch.

Ella left her job and went to a foreign land with Dave. They had a perfect plan to find a job there and live there. Away from family, friends, and everyone they know.

There are little things in life that indicate the wrong directions. Ella always sensed it and tried to tell Dave about them. He was so consumed in the thought he can make things better, but it always got worse.

They had the plan to live close by in the new place and look for a job. But Dave, at the last moment, chose to stay with his cousins and that made things much more complicated. They never had time to meet, their plans were all gone wrong and for Dave, he blamed everything on the situations.

Ella believed love is measured in times of difficulty. How a person is being with you to get through those difficult times, that sense of relief talking to your loved ones after a rough day or time. It was not there between them, she could never feel anything beyond the words Dave said. “Love you” started to mean nothing to her. She stopped replying back she loved him.

Three months passed away, after a lot of fight and makeup, they both returned without a job. But, moreover, Ella had started to distance herself from Dave. She still tried to be nice, supportive and be there. But he never understood. He always expected more. More affection, moreover, more care. He just didn’t understand how she feels.

Her solution to every fight was a “Break up” and she meant it. Dave, on the other hand, thought its all just a fight and kept trying. He never let her go but he was never brave enough to stand up for their relationship either. It was always a secret. Within their friend circle, within their family, nobody knew about it. Only those who stayed temporarily in their life knew about Ella and Dave.

They all said it is the perfect relationship. They only saw the roses Dave sent, they never understood the pain of thorns on them.

One day Ella decided to end the relationship after a long fight that got her to a point where she could not take it anymore. She didn’t freak out, but she let him go. The next day Dave asked her to talk to him for one last time and asked her to go to the terrace of her apartment. Ella was waiting for the call and was pissed off at waiting for the call.

Then, through the stairs came Dave, took her by surprise and that was the moment she felt so special. She had an intuition this was going to happen but she thought no one is crazy enough to do that. But he did and he bought her favorite chocolate and wine.

They spent a spontaneous 5 days traveling. Ella believed in getting to know a person when they travel together. And they did. She cried twice in public because Dave kept shouting at her. She decided to leave him halfway through their trip to one place. But continued thinking what he had done for her. It was becoming an obligation. She was getting into captivity rather than love.
Years passed, she put up with Dave in everything and then came a moment she had to leave her job for her family. She had to go through a very hard time and she started to feel very different. She started to lose herself and she could barely identify who she was.

Dave was excited about his holidays from his work and came to meet Ella. but things turned out different. Very different for both of them. Ella had convinced herself that this is the one who was going to be with for the rest of her life. Dave had promised her he is never going to let her go.
That was the last trip they took together to a far land. Dave returned promising they will be together. Little did she know that was the end of their relationship. That was the time Dave realized it was not working out for both of them. That was the first and last time he left her and went for someone else.

Ella had a broken heart and a shattered life. She always knew it was not meant to be but it hurt. It hurt so bad she didn’t realize she had started to love him enough to give up everything for him.
