Hernán Cortés and La Malinche
Malinalí, known as La Malinche, was a significant figure in the conquest of Mexico. Malinche, despised by her mother as a child, grows next to her grandmother learning Mayan and the indigenous Nahuatl language. When she dies, she is sold by her mother as a slave. It passes through several "owners" until it is given to Hernán Cortés. Due to his knowledge of the language of the Mexicas, he acts as an interpreter between them and the conquistadors. This woman is accused historically of having delivered her people in exchange for her love, that is, she fell madly in love with the conqueror of whom she was apprenticed, enslaved, lover and who played a fundamental role in the conquest.
