Lotus the national flower of india(Nelumbo nucifera):religious and social importance since ancient to present day
Botanical specification Class: Angiosperm, eudicot, order: Proteales, Genus: Nelumbo, species: Nucifera is a fresh water Angiospermic plant. Leaf of this plant used for the wrap of food. Root, stem, flower, seed all is edible for human even young leaves one can eat.In ancient India, lotus was symbolised as Goddes of wealth Laxmi for general people.But for Yogi, it was eight petals called Ashtanga Yoga 1 Yam, 2 Niyam, 3 Ashana 4 pranayama 5 Pratyahara 6 Dhyana 7 Dharana 8 Samadhi(final destination) Recent research establishes a very significant phenomenon, like a warm-blooded animal, Lotus flower can regulate their heat. It means it can produce heat some how or store sun light energy for a long time.In modern day their stem and roots(rhizomes) used in many cuisines their seeds used as popcorn, the paste of Lotus seed used in pastries
Why lotus was called the symbol of wealth?
Because of their use in diffrent typres of eatries, people of ancient India collect all parts of lotus, and one who collect more was called more wealthy.Gradually it was symbolized as wealth Goddes Laxmi
