Drug J147 reverses Alzheimers and modulates ATP5A function
J147 is a drug on track for human trials. It binds to a Mitochondrial protein, ATP5A, that contributes to the production of ATP (what all our cells use for energy) and is linked to dysfunction in old animals.
What's crazy (to me) is that from what I've read J147 locks up ATP5A, acting like a brake on ATP production. The positive effect is a little counter-intuitive.
What a strange, wonderful world we live in.
Here's an article that summarizes nicely.
