This is a good illustration of the "standards-of-evidence" problem.
Ripley only has personal testimony (Qualia) to support her case, and her sanity is in question, so the investigators, in the absence of fact (Quanta) are forced to conclude she is likely an unreliable witness, at least until they lose contact with LV426.
