Making a base for a Radial Saw to safely cut logs

in #log5 years ago

These saws are extremely dangerous and need a table and a way to fix whatever you are cutting safely.

So i took an old plank from a shitty ikea thing and made a slot for the saw and the guard.

To cut logs the safety guard needs to be locked in place making it even more dangerous, so i fixed the outer guard by drilling a hole in the plank and using a screwdriver to lock the saw in place.

I measured and set in the stone washing basin the plank by using a log to compensate for the slope the bason has.

And initially i used C-clamps to fix two wooden blocks to set the log to be cut in a blocking place.

This failed as the sense of rotation ejected the log to be cut away from the set, so i repositioned the C-clamps and used another log as a stop.

Anyway it took me about 3 hours to make, but only 5 minutes to safely cut a bin full of logs... Next time i got to saw wood i will have 5 minute job.
