Yes you can. You can respect a person based on their works and what they've been able to accomplish in life. You don't have to love them, you don't even have to like a person to respect them. The second part of your question is a little deeper in my opinion, but I'm inclined to say yes.
You can respect someone you dont love that i believe. Let me throw in this senario,when your sibling gets married to someone who adores and treats them well, you by all means will love the person's attitude but if the person mistreats your sibling , you will not respect them thereby not loving them as well. Its a natural thing.
