Let's be honest, we all need friends in our lives especially in the university. You need that one friend you can go to for advice, that friend that shares your interests, that friend that will always have your back. While some people might not be very social and hence their resolve to stay friendless, some others are super social and you see these guys moving around with their friends regularly.

If you're the former, let's show you how you can make friends easily. It's not rocket science 😁.

  1. Don't Judge People:

Do not let your idea of how your friend should look like, sound like, or behave like prevent you from starting conversations that may lead someplace very far 😉. Friendships comes in many guises.

  1. Be Nice:

Being nice is like, one of the basic rules in the friend-making handbook. If someone needs help, please offer it. If a roommate or an acquaintance is feeling homesick, cheer them up with a homemade cooking. Be nice, it rubs off on the receiver.

  1. Compliment People:

Complimenting people is a great way to start a conversation with absolutely anyone. For example, if you love someone's clothes, tell them and ask them where they got them from. It'll make the recipient really happy, and therefore you, and might kick start a beautiful clothes-loving bond.

  1. Everyone else wants to make friends as much as you:

Try to remember this when you feel bad about not having friends. Almost everybody is shy at the start of university, and would welcome someone to strike up a conversation with them. So go for it!

  1. Try not to study every time:

Yea, studying is a big part of university life. You need to study and all that but don't be so busy chasing perfect grades that you miss out on valuable socialising time. Socialising comes with it's benefits. Benefits your perfect grades may not give you when you leave the university environment. Try to find a balance.

  1. Don't put all your friendship eggs in one friendship basket:

You may have made an amazing group of friends, but make sure you've got other friends, too - such as fellowship mates, course mates or friends from church. If something goes wrong in your group, it'll great to have other friends to fall back on.

  1. Join Clubs

Joining clubs and societies at the start of university means you'll have tonnes of opportunities to meet other like-minded people. You can easily make friends from these group.
