The end results of a contentious couple of years
I am so very frustrated, I feel abandoned and hurt. I've done so many things to
Be a valuable member of this community where I now live, but I knew there
Was a time limit (although there are those who have lived here for YEARS,
Even left and come back, but they are not my skin color, yes I said it!!)
This was the option they gave me
BUT I do have 6 months left on my current lease, I could take more time and find a
Place that wouldn't be in the tangled, congested mess that is the "Historic Downtown"
Section of Atlanta.
So what do I do? Take this one because it is a "Bird in the Hand" or do I skip this
Opportunity and opt to hold out for better Location?
In either case, they will take 1/3 of my monthly income, roughly $211, and I don't know
If I can pay my car insurance, internet bill, phone bill co-pay on Dr's visits etc... and
Still have anything left for unexpected events?
$435 per month
Doesn't go far.

This is heartbreaking! Honestly, pisses me off. Isn't there any other places for older adults? I know in Florida and NYC they have nice options, but I'm not from GA. I will need to consult with a good friend of mine that is from that area and see. Do remind me to call her!
There are dozens of places, but as far as the ones I've checked, they all have a waiting list, and they all have the same "1/3 your income' as rent.
This new place promises to be nice, as far as a living space, which I
estimate to be about 30% more space than I have right now.
I'd be able to have my plants with me again (but not my trees)
My main objection is the congestion and the panhandlers.
Thank you for reading, watching and commenting Nikki,
You're a good friend.
What I really need is to win the lottery. 😜
What is the deal with 1/3 rd of your income for rent? This sounds awful. And waiting lists too. 30% more room and you have room for plants, but it is congested and noisy. Are there any better options out there?
It is written into every guideline I've found, but I can't nail it down to show you a link yet, but when I do I'll post it.
Suffice it to say, of the 5 facilities I've investigated so far, (that do NOT accept section 8, or rental assistance), ALL of them so far have used that formula, rent is income based, and will take 30% (1/3) of your income as your rent.
In this particular building, all utilities are included, I don't know about cable, but I have my own contract with another 18 months with Xfinity for internet (here basic cable is provided, but not internet), so I'll keep mine if they can get it to me in the new location,,,IF I decide to go there.
And yes, there are waiting lists at EVERY ONE OF THEM, I am one of the 'baby boomers' that huge growth spurt in population right after WWII, so that something like 65 million others including me are now retiring and looking for housing.
Many made a lot more money than I did and those are the people I get paid to entertain now.
Gotta go to bed now, pre-op at 8:30 at the VA (don't worry, surgery is next week, this one is cosmetic)
Good night sweetheart.
Good Night Jerry. Take care.
