Liverpool Vs Huddersfield - English Premier League - Friday 26th April 20:00 - Match Preview
Manchester City finally got around to playing their game in hand, soundly defeating their rivals Manchester United 0-2 meaning that with just 3 games left to play for both sides hunting the title City lead the way on 89 points with Liverpool just 1 point behind. The Reds will get the chance to retake the lead on Friday night when they host bottom of the league Huddersfield.
Nothing is guaranteed in sports however this is surely a game where there is only likely to be one result. Liverpool is undefeated in the league at home this season and has collected an amazing 47 points from their home games so far. While Huddersfield on the road has won just once all season collecting just 6 points from away games. The Terriers overall points tally is only slightly better with them already doomed to relegation at the bottom of the league on 14 points having won just 3 games. Liverpool are under massive pressure to win their final games in hope that City slip up but even with the added pressure this one should be relatively straightforward.
With the level of opposition in mind and the Champions League Semi-Final against Barcelona during the week, we may see Jurgen Klopp make a few changes to his lineup for this game. Fabinho was injured just a few minutes after taking to the field last time out against Cardiff after a head collision and may be rested to ensure he is fully recovered for the following Wednesday. Joe Gomez has come off the bench in the past 2 games and could now be ready for a start and may come in at right-back allowing Alexander Arnold a break. Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana face late fitness tests to determine if they are able to take part but I am predicting neither will be in the starting lineup on Friday night. Mo Salah missed a training session to fly to New York to take part in an event after being named in the Times list of 100 influential people and as a result, Klopp may start with the Egyptian on the bench with Origi coming into the team.
Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert has a number of injury concerns. Ben Hamer, Isaac Mbenza, Adama Diakhaby, Philip Billing and Laurent Depoitre are all ruled out with injuries while Aaron Mooy faces a fitness test before the game. The Terriers boss is likely to set his side up hoping to make things as difficult for Liverpool as possible which means we are likely to see him go with just Steve Mounie up front and a five-man midfield which will be primarily to protect the defence. They aren't a side which posses much of an attacking threat, their top scorer is young winger Karlon Grant with just 4 goals.
It was a shame that the old enemy Manchester United couldn't have taken points from Manchester City meaning it's out of Liverpool's hands but the fans will still live in hope that there could be one more twist in this epic title race and Anfield will surely be rocking tomorrow night with the fans cheering on Liverpool to continue their record-breaking. season.
