On September 13, 1900, in London, tormented by the disorders caused by having two faces, Edward Mordake took his own life. Born in the year 1877 in Postmouth County, the usual thing in cases of births with deformities was to confine children to specialized institutions, his mother, the Countess of Darlington, despite being horrified by the appearance of his son decided to raise him in their own house. Edward was born with a deformity called "Diprosopia" more common in animals than in humans and consists of a second face in the skull, without food or communication functions but with nerve and muscle terminals without control by the individual. Edward had a completely normal front dominant face with all its functions, the semi-expressive duplicate was at the back of the skull just above the neck. The second face had stray and always open eyes that gave it a sinister look, used to move its lips in a whisper, had recurring tics and it was common for it to cry. Edward was a normal person and received a high level education, so they believed he would understand and accept his condition, but it was not. His condition generated rejection or teasing and he used to spend entire nights without sleeping because of the cries or laughter that his back face emitted, he believed he was possessed by the devil. Incognito he moved to London where he rented an apartment and hanged himself. That same year, Dr. George M. Gould included him in his book "Abnormalities and curiosities of medicine."
