Litecoin Lightning Network implementation by MIT on August 1st 2017! litecoin.mit.edu
August 1st also happens to be the planned date for #Bitcoin's UASF.
Some facts:
In 2016 $900,000 was given to MIT to create a DCI fund for Bitcoin development & research. This has lead to their students and researchers to look into different ways of using the platform. Some of the projects listed on their github include:
Lightning project can be found on github: https://github.com/mit-dci/lit
What we get:
- It will make transactions nearly instant.
- Bitcoin is gonna have it too sooner or later, so it will be useful for atomic swaps.
- It will help make Litecoin even more useful for micro-payments and off chain transactions.
- It will help make it closer towards reaching Bitcoin's marketcap in the long term. When this comes, people would use Litecoin more for their daily transactions, while Bitcoin would only serve its purpose as a store of value.
- Price will go up.
BTW: Charlie Lee graduated from MIT in 1999.
So yes, great good things coming. Litecoin will be faster, lighter, less political and most secure network. Thanks to the great community and amazing progress.
Nevertheless, while the future of Litecoin is uncertain, one thing for sure is that it will survive alongside Bitcoin for many years to come.
P.S. However, any member of the MIT community can register a sub-domain like that.
