Top Defi social media alternatives

in #list3 years ago

In this day and age, it is a given that privacy is merely and name and it doesn't actually exist. This doesn't have to be the case. First money became decentralized, but now social media has too! This is a revolution that has been waiting to happen, and innovators have now seen the potential in the sector. Coming years will see fierce competition, as each business struggles to outdo the other in the attempt to create the next Facebook, albeit with privacy as a feature, and create billions of dollars. Without further ado, I bring you the top 4 DeFi social media alternatives

  1. Minds
Minds is an interesting blockchain based social media platform that has been touted as an alternative to Facebook and reddit. A bold claim, and they attempt to bring truth to it. Free speech is a foundation of the platform, and while this may lead to some toxic users, the majority will just be glad to have a platform free from oppressive censorship. Users are provided tokens for either curating the content or creating it, with these tokens used to convert to either other cryptocurrencies or promote their content. The promotion is quite generous, with one token bringing another 1000 views, a great way to gain exposure for zero cost other than providing good content.

It is available on both mobile and desktop, and with recent political activism from Big Tech, there has been an influx of users onto the platform. This is good, as we all know that social media relies on more users, compounding their growth through FOMO. The interface is futuristic, and although it may take a bit of getting used to, it will be worth it, just think, getting paid to scroll!

  1. Dtube
Dtube is based on the Steem blockchain, and aims to solve the problem of YouTube's monetization, or more so the lack of it. Over recent years, YouTube has been making it harder and harder for content creators to get paid, instead ensuring that more money ends up in their pockets. Dtube is monetized through users voting for content creators to be paid for their work in Steem tokens, convertible to many other cryptocurrencies. This continues for a week after the video is published, which although it is a smallish timeframe, should provide plenty of time to be compensated.

The interface is, simply put, an exact clone of YouTube, but this makes the switch far more doable than if you had to relearn the entire platform.

  1. Ask Fm
Ask Fm positions itself as an alternative to Quora, but the questions posed there appear to be far less intellectually inclined. It is more like a networking app, where you can meet a heap of people and then talk to them directly. An example of a question I say was "who sleeps naked", so this kind of gives an insight into the questions. Maybe there is an aspect of the platform that more closely mirrors Quora an my understanding of it, but I am yet to find it. Users are paid in cryptocurrency for providing top quality answers that provide value to everyone.

The interface was neat and easy to negotiate, at least on desktop. There is also a mobile app available which I did not download but had good reviews which I will take as a positive.

  1. Experty
An alternative to Skype with a twist, Experty allows users to connect with experts (mainly related to finance and blockchain). The experts have to respond in less then 24 hours for them to be compensated for their time. You can do a plethora of things with this, such as getting an expert to check on your project, to simply speaking to somebody about your ideas. This is a really cool networking platform and I hope to see more users on it in the future as it truly does provide value to the world of DeFi, creating a more educated user base.

The interface is modern and easy to navigate with the intuitive design. There may be some finer details that take some understanding, but this doesn't matter as long as you understand the basics.

I hope this made you realize that privacy is something that one can still own in this day and age, and doesn't have to be sacrificed to see hat friends are up too.

Hope you all enjoyed, until next time
