Information & Overview of Lisk Core Open Beta Launch
Lisk Core 1.0.0 Beta will be released on Monday, based on a Twitter post from LiskHQ.
This is a project that’s been around for a while, launching in April of 2016. Over the last year the project has made a lot of progress and now we’re seeing other projects building the Lisk platform.
On Monday it will be having the open beta release of Lisk Core 1.0.0. It’s the blockchain app platform and the center of the Lisk universe.
There will also be a SDK, or software developer kit. They basically want to make a bunch of pluggable components that developers can use. Lisk already has a lot of the surrounding infrastructure in place too, like Lisk Elements, the javascript library and Lisk Template, which is a set of standards for building on Lisk.
What is Lisk Core? What does it offer?
Tomorrow will include a blog post with additional official information in regards to Lisk Core Open Beta Launch. This comes after almost two years of work by the Lisk team and the entire community behind Lisk. It presents a huge milestone in the projects history and development. Stay up to date on all of the developments directly on their Github.
For interaction with the network Lisk created Lisk Hub. It’s an app with things like a wallet and dashboard. There’s already some projects building on Lisk. One is Rencoin. It’s a proof of work coin that encourage children to learn through incentives of earning REN coins for their efforts and achievements.
Another is Madana, which is creating a decentralized pool of information where owners of data can keep their data private but profit off it as well. And there's more coming. TLDR: A Javascript ran Ethereum with sidechains.
Pros and Cons of Lisk Core Protocol:
Pros:
- It uses Javascript making Lisk very accessible for developers.
- Lisk offers true sidechains, allowing developers to build dApps on their own blockchain - so no mainchain clutter.
- Lisk has recently relaunched with a Javascript SDK, a command line interface and rebranded website making everything more accessible.
- The team are determined to make blockchain technology a user friendly experience, which could make Lisk attractive to developers.
Cons:
- Many other blockchain platforms offer multiple programming languages to build dApps so while Javascript makes it accessible, it’s not an advantage in the market anymore.
- According to some developers, DPOS doesn't really work well currently. It encourages groups to take over the delegate positions, negating the "proof-of-stake" part for voters.
- Fees, voting and registering a second passphrase are costly but fees are likely to be balanced.
Core Team of Lisk and other Members
Currently the Lisk team is made up of 41 members. 22 of those are developers, 9 are marketers, 6 creatives and 4 in operations. Some notable members include:
Max Kordek – One of the founders and the current president of Lisk, Max has been in the blockchain space since 2012. He founded Lisk with the aim to bring blockchain development to the masses.
Oliver Beddows – The other co-founder and current Vice President and CTO, Oliver has been a full stack developer working for various enterprise applications with 12 years experience. He’s a blockchain and open-source enthusiast and aims to help people build blockchain applications simply and easily.

How would you describe Lisk Core and Open Beta?
Iker: I will divide the answer into two parts: On one hand, we have the Lisk consensus protocol which gives the project a specific “personality”. Its Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) system creates a decentralized democracy where delegates secure the network and thus get rewards depending on the contributions or added value to the community. On the other hand, Lisk will allow for the development of all sort of Dapps for developers in a simple way by using JavaScript.Conclusion
Overall, Lisk is a relatively unique project that has a lot going for it. Despite the potentially tough competition we think the use of Javascript is a great feature that could well prove to be a major factor in bringing in new developers.
With the consistent updates and improvements, solid team and easy of use, the continual growth of Lisk is looking like an inevitability.
The Lisk team is mainly based in Berlin but have members and contractors all over the world.
