#lighttheworld day 14
Today's scripture is matthew 6:21 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
This is a very good message for the christmas season, especially considering the context of the rest of the passage.
Matthew 6:19-24 ESV 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Here we see a clear instruction to love heavenly things, and not money or material wealth. This is because whatever you own, or work for, will rot away. Instead of loving the money you make from your job, or chasing after wealth, love the people around you instead.
This is a good message for christmas isn't it? With so many people running around, trying to buy things for people using money they wouldn't spend on them otherwise. Thinking this purchased product of a material economy will demonstrate a love and affection for a person that wasn't shown all year long through spending time with them, and talking to them throughout the day.
People really need reminders of what is truly important. So many acknowledge they must spend time with friends and family during this season, so truly enjoy them while they are here :) these are people who love you, have provided for you, have watched you grow, and have shared laughter as well as tears. So value THEM, instead of the gifts you give them, or expect to receive.
To have a connection with another person, who loves, honors and respects you, and who has shared priceless memories with you, is more valuable than any appliance from walmart, or any flat screen Tv.
One family, realized what was important, and what would be the best christmas present, a member of their own family :)
