Living in the Ghetto for a weekend

in #lifestyle7 years ago

I been traveling around a lot lately. Traveling back and forth driving cars for customer's and living in hotels. That I went back to my home town for a weekend. I have a brother that lives in Louisville and he has a lot of rental properties. I asked him if he had a place I could stay just for a week while I was in town. He said yes he has a house he was working on but it was in a low income neighborhood. I said it did not matter cause I was just going to be here a week and trying to save money for my next trip and hotels.

I met up with my brother and he drove me to one of his houses I was going to stay. On our way there I noticed a lot of abandoned buildings. And me thinking since the buildings were abandoned that there was not to many people going to be around.

I was thinking who would live in this area of town? It was like a ghost town and I did not see but a few people out on the street and had me thinking it may not be to bad.

The part of town we ended up being at was the West End of Louisville. My brother says he buys property there for really cheap prices and rehab's the buildings into nice homes for Section 8 housing for low income families that the state pays there rent. So he quotes a price he wants and the state pays him for his house's.

I got to looking at my google maps to see where I was and happened to notice is that almost half of Louisville is ghetto. Most people in Louisville live off of the government and get government checks and food stamps. As we were driving there I seen the area we were heading was in the heart of the ghetto.

I seen this girl walking, She was smoking a cigarette with a baby in the oven and a mixed kid.

Had me thinking it can't be to bad. Then we rounded the corner and then I seen the cops in a yard investigating someone's house.

It looked like someone had been shot, by the way things where set up in the yard. And this happened about 8 house's down from one of my brother's house's.

We get to his rental property and he told me the neighborhood was okay during the day light. But I better not come out at night, Night is when the drugs and criminals are out. It looks like a quiet neighbor hood during day. But at night everybody comes out and it turns into a rough neighborhood.

It had me thinking, never mind I better figure out another place to stay. This place was way out of the way for me, And way to dangerous. So I said take me back to the East Side. I have other friends I could ask. Or I could get me a hotel for just the 2 nights in town. So I did.

I'm hoping things work out with Steem and my bitcoins that I'll never end up living that low income lifestyle.

Thinking how fortunately I am to have a good life and a great job to hopefully never have to live that lifestyle.
