How humans achieve -- Dedication [NEW YEARS RESOLUTION-ERS]
"This year... it's my year!"
We hear this echo at the start of every year. I'll be honest with you, I do too! There's is nothing wrong with wanting to have a great year ahead of you and wishing for the best. The problem is the majority of people wishing for a better future won't achieve it. All the promises being made by eating those tasty grapes will be for nothing, except the joy of eating tasty grapes!
How then can the everyday person achieve the biggest feats they give themselves at the beginning of the year? Good ol' fashion... oh come on, it's in the title. You know what it is!!! DEDICATION!
It's Easier Said Than Done
Well, the things we most desire are desired because they are usually hard for everyone to get! If you tell yourself your resolution is to pick up your dirty socks once a month, then that's much easier than promising yourself to make a billion dollars from scratch. Our wants are usually harder to attain. Even though it's kind of a basic though, it's important! As you try to lose weight, climb the social ladder, or getting that new promotion, remind yourself you want it because it's hard! If it wasn't, everyone and their mothers would have it! By trying to succeed in your hard-to-attain goals, you've taken the first step to reaching it. You might always hear that taking the first step is the hardest. Let's look at that a little closer.
Taking the FIRST STEP is the HARDEST STEP. It isn't the ONLY STEP!!!!! All the other steps needed to reach your goal, collectively, are EXPONENTIALLY BIGGER than the first one!
If I were to place a lbs measurement on how hard it is to move a 50 lb rock for a mile, let me tell you the energy it took you to walk one step does not compare to the other 1,000+ you have to do. Taking the first doesn't mean you're done. If that were the case, we would ALL be billionaires with beach bodies in the middle of December!
Dedication Is The Source That Keeps You Running
One word: Marathon. Miles upon miles upon miles. The more ambitious your goal, the more miles you will have to endure. You will be tired. You will not want to reach your goal anymore. You might even hate yourself for even wanting to embark on your adventurous run! Your mind will tell you to stop, but the past you will want you to keep going. You will thank yourself when you reach your destination. Everything you put forth to get there will finally be worth the hard work. People want to receive immediate gratification, it's natural. We like to open the fridge and enjoy all the goodies we bought an hour ago. The harder tasks that take months or even years to attain, many people aren't in the market for those goodies. You might want to stop, but let me tell you--it's worth it.
Challenge yourself!
Here's one:
Make yourself do something you've always wanted to do in the morning BEFORE going to work, school, or beginning your daily routines. Whether it be making a pot of coffee, walking the dog, or giving a stranger a smile. Whatever it is, give it a try. The satisfaction might make you want to be dedicated in doing it the next day.
