Richard Mille RM 11-03 vs Ferrari 488 Spider
Watch me review the Richard Mille RM 11-03 inside a Ferrari 488 Spider...It's the first time I do this and I think it's sick!
This all-red NTPT Red Quartz version of the RM 11-03 is stunning and the color matches perfectly with the ride. I can tell you one thing...I definitely got a lot of stares as I drove through the streets of Downtown Miami!
Richard Mille is one of those ultra-luxury brands that always seems to stun me, in a good way! Their attention to detail is superb. The brand came out of nowhere, but is now a definite contender in the high-end sports watch market. Their development and manufacturing process is intense, as they always seem to create their watches in the most insanely complex and difficult way possible. Fast and easy is definitely not their thing.
I have met a lot of Richard Mille watch owners that also drive very nice sports cars. This is no coincidence. The company actually takes a lot of design cues from Formula One racing. Just look at how well the RM 11-03 blends with the 488.
When you put this new version of the RM11 next to the older models, they look about the same size. Nevertheless, the new bumps on the side of the case of the 11-03 gives you the impression that it's a little bit bigger.
The crown on the new watch stands out a lot and looks more robust than on the previous RM11. Richard Mille also put more detail into the new design. It's got a brushed titanium face plate for the movement under the sapphire dial that pops a little bit more than the older version. Another thing that changed on the RM 11-03 is the strap. The vents (or as I like to call them, the “shark gills”) on the strap make it look super cool and aerodynamic, like the vents from a Formula One racer.
Right now prices for Richard Mille RM 11-03 models are pretty crazy. It's not uncommon to pay $40,000 to $50,000 over retail for these luxurious timepieces. That may sound totally nuts, but the guys that buy these sort of watches usually have a wide assortment of expensive toys in their closets. I know it's sick, but it is what it is!
The only two things that irk me a little bit about this RM 11-03 is the multi-colored dial (I would have preferred just two colors) and the box. Why in the world would they make the box into a winder?! The sliding glass on the winder box actually feels a bit flimsy. It would be a lot better to just store the watch away in a really cool, high-end winder...not in this abomination of a box!
Overall, I think that the watch is stunning, is super comfortable to wear, and definitely gets a lot of heads turning; a strong contender in the Watch Game!
